Hello rotorheads,

I have upgraded my 93 FD with the basic mods (downpipe, exhaust, cold air induction, power FC, pulley) and are no going for a better IC than the crap stock one ! I have searched around for a nice SMIC setup (will not go for a FMIC at this stage) have looked at the PFS SMIC (looks nice) the Pettit SMIC, the SRMotorsports, and last the TRUST/Greddy SMIC. I have got a very good price on the TRUST/Greddy SMIC and the quality of this product really looks nice, but is this a good SMIC or would you recommend going for one of the other brands ? and if, why ? remember, I will not do any more upgrades on my car for now ;o) thank's.

Just about any of those you listed are going to be better than the stock IC. The Greddy SMIC is a good SMIC. However, with any part of the car, the part is only as good as the intended use. For stock twins running up to around 10-12 PSI, the Greddy SMIC will be a decent unit.

the greddy is prob the most popluar smic setups. as mahjik said, if your just going to run a bit higher boost than stock then a smic is for you. plus seems like you would you have no ignition or fuel upgrades...

 

I'm currently using a Greddy SMIC, and I think it's great.

 

Thank's for your replys guys ! very nice to hear the TRUST/Greddy SMIC will be just great for me, will the unit hook up with my stock piping ? It looks like the TRUST/Greddy SMIC comes with short piping and sillicone couplers etc. ?

Don't buy anything from SR Motorsports! Not only are they way overpriced on everything, but Ray's a crook and a worthless piece of sh*t. Plenty of documentation available on that but I guess people need to be reminded.

If you plan on doing anything more power-wise in the future, go with the PFS or Pettit. Otherwise I agree that the Greddy is a good solution.

I am a little confused, some say the greddy SMIC will go right in with the stock piping some say you have to do some mods ? what is right ? allso, some say it will be a problem with the a/c if you have that, I have, is that right and if, what do you do ? really the store where I have got a good price on the IC says it is a direct bolt on with no mods requeired.

Oh, just one more question, will an aftermarket radiator (stock location, just bigger/better) fit in without problems with the TRUST/Greddy ? I am allso looking at upgrading my radiator ;o) thank,s.

The stock IC piping doesn't require any modifications, as the Greddy comes with the necessary piping to bolt right in. However, the stock IC ducting won't fit the Greddy's increased size, requiring some cutting modifications, and the "ducting" supplied with the Greddy is basically a joke. Any IC is only as good as the ducting it uses. You should look into obtaining a Pettit SMIC duct, which will fit the Greddy nicely.

The only problem you'll encounter with the A/C with the Greddy is if you use a Pettit or other aftermarket duct. The A/C evaporator canister mounts to the stock ducting assembly, and routes airflow past it to help its function. Aftermarket ducts don't have mounts or airflow provisions for the evaporator canister, but the A/C hard lines hold it in place decently if you can't mount it anywhere, and function isn't affected noticeably without direct airflow.

You may encounter some fitment issues with a thicker aftermarket radiator. Many have fixed those issues by reversing the radiator mounting brackets, which lower the radiator a bit for additional clearance, but that is no guarantee; some still encountered clearance issues that required some modifications for the IC to clear the radiator fan assembly.

I've also heard that the Blitz SMIC is e very good one that fits perfectly with no mods.
Didn't experienced it myself though.

 

i would take the blitz smic before the greddy. I plan to buy a blitz smic sometime this month.

I would definitely recommend it over the Greddy mainly for the fitment.

 

I recently bought a Pettit Racing SMIC (Coolcharge II) and I'm very happy with it. Although I'm running a Koyo Radiator I had zero problems with installation, it was really easy to fit. And the most important thing, it has an air duct included that also bolts in perfectly! That was one of the reasons that made me buy this IC instead of the greddy (too small?), PFS or others... I would recommend you purchasing this one

 

The reason the other units fit so nicely is because of how small they are. The Greddy is much larger than most of the other units:

Stock: 2.5x11.5x4.5 = 129 in^3
ARC: 2.5x12x6 = 180 in^3
Blitz: 11.0x5.5x4.0 = 242 in^3
PFS: 3.5x10.4x10.5 = 382 in^3
Greddy: 4x12.5x7.5 = 375 in^3

That said, I had no problem installing my Greddy SMIC. The ONLY problem I had was that the pipe from the Greddy elbow to the SMIC was slightly too long... took me about 5 minutes to cut it down, and I was set.
