OH SMIC Choices & Source?

I'm planning to replace the stock IC. I'm trying to source a medium or large IC kit that comes with a duct. I know about Petitt & ASP. But I cannot find anyone who sells ASP, are they still available?

Does anyone else make an IC with a duct?

Sorry if this is covered somewhere & I've just missed it.
Mike K.

if you can find a used Blitz SMIC it will use the stock ducting. its twice the core over stock and perfect if staying twins IMO.

Based off memory here is a list of SMIC
Greddy
Blitz
ASP
m2
PFS
Pettit Racing CoolCharge 1-3
ARC
ARC Race (slightly thicker)
Re-amemiya
Ebay Special.
hks (very very rare)

Out of these I believe the pettit has the biggest cooling capacity and is readily available. The arc is a piece of junk and is not that much bigger then the stock one. The pfs, greddy and blitz units are all of decent quality and the blitz one IMO looks the best. Im not sure if the asp and m2 are still in production, the hks version is discontinued and the re-amemiya is as well but pops up on yahoo japan on a regular basis. The rest are readily available. Their is always someone trying to sell a smic in the fs section so check that regularly.

So if I want a new one, it looks like Petitt is the only choice w/ a duct. Thanks.

Hey FCNARed - I'm interested in the PFS IC if the original poster, Mike K, isn't. I'm in NoVA so a pick-up is possible as well. PM me with pics and price. Thanks.

PFS IC and M2 are about the same size. I have a m2, I'm happy with it.

FWIW, the PFS duct is one of the better ones I've seen. Very sturdy fiberglass with black gel-coat finish.
And you can still get them new. But there was a design change in the PFS IC. The original came with cast inlet and outlet necks. The newer ones are welded tubes, but I'd guess performance is the same.

Yea, I ordered one last June. They sent me the welded mess. I sent it back and they made another one and made it look like the original style. Ray and Sam are good guys. They don't have the molds for the piping. Somehow they made mine look fantastic. The power coaters went crazy though and painted the top. It looks way better than I thought it would. I am very happy. They said they would throw in some nice new couplers and a cap for the duct. I get it wednesday. I think it is the least expensive of all of the smic. Worth every penny imo.

How is the amemiya IC?
I also heard that the PFS unit, while good, doesnt utilize its size well (hot/cold spots).

Here is an updated list...
I've put ?? on SMICs without any performance feedback

Greddy
Blitz (?)
ASP (m2)
PFS
Pettit Racing CoolCharge 1-3
ARC
ARC Race (slightly thicker)
Re-amemiya (?)
Ebay Special (XS power?)
hks (?)
Knightsports (?)
Mazdaspeed (?)
SR-Motorsports (?)

From what I have heard, the M2 units are excellent.

Here is an interesting thread about PFS vs. Greddy.
https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/pfs-vs-greddy-smic-100691/

The general consensus is that PFS is worth it over greddy if the PFS air intake box is included.

The MAZDASPEED IC, aside from being all metal, is only marginally thicker by .5 inches than the stock. I've never used one, but SPORTCOMPACT Magazine wasn't all that impressed with it several years ago. http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/pr...t_6/index.html (scroll down to the "Cool it" heading)
On the positive side, this is probably the ONLY true drop-in IC that will also use the stock ducting.
