Single vs. stock twin

ive got some cash saved up for a turbo upgrade but i have no idea what to get. ive seen and heard many good things about the stock twins being upgraded but i want to know what everyone has to say. i need good advice and details about each if im going to have a final decision. thank you for your opinions.

Search, read stickies... take your TIME. The most expensive mistake you can make is to start building your car before you know where your final destination lies.

My quick advice is if you have some fairly deep pockets (around 10 grand) to blow on your car, go single turbo... it rocks and it's so simple compared to the twins.

i was thinking single turbo. i have heard that it lowers engine and oil temps a lot more tha the twins. i hear it is also easier to work with. but what if i am running on a stock motor? am i going to have to boost it really low or what?

I have a stock motor internally except I did a porting job and I run 15 PSI which results in a little over 400 rwhp. The main things that limit your boost for most people really come down to:

1 - Fuel. On pump gas, most people can get away with 15-17 PSI. A few daring people have run more, but they are REALLY pushing it. So unless you plan on running race gas all the time, you will be at 17 or less.

2 - Fuel Injectors. More boost requires more fuel. If you don't put in an upgraded pump and larger injectors, you will be limited by that.

You should spend about one year (seriously) researching, reading stickies on the single turbo forum, and getting a general sense of what you need to do. Either that, or jump right in and be prepared to spend a lot of money as you change your mind or find out you did something that is incompatible with other things you've done.

Basic things to consider - fuel, computer, exhaust, intercooler, tuning, drivetrain, intercooler/intake....it's a long list. Depending on the condition of your motor, you need to consider porting, dowel pinning, and other upgrades to the internals.

Unfortunately, your question is almost like asking what does E=MC^2 mean, but you have no background in math or physics - it's going to take years to get up to a baseline of knowledge where someone can give you a short answer that you can comprehend.

if you want powah...single is the easiest way. it will have obsticals in getting it all set up right...but if you have probs it is super easy to diagnose in comparison. a great twin setup is worth it. I love the twins...but like the others...I wanted bigger power and less headaches....so I went single too.
