Simple boost/midpipe question??

Will I need to port my wastegate and get a boost controller or just get a boost controller if I install a midpipe?? I plan on running about 12 psi, with the stock twins.

This will give me a full exhaust, intake, no emissions, and PFC. I'm controlling boost with the PFC right now, and I know it won't work with a midpipe.

Get a boost controller first then see if that is sufficient. You might be able to get around porting the wastegate if you install some restriction back into the exhaust such as 2.5" restrictor plate. Search on that.

The colder it gets the harder it is to control boost...

I agree. It's impossible to know just how close your wastegate will be to choking, so you can hold off on the porting but sure to test that boost to be sure it doesn't creep.

i would get the boost controller first and you may have to put in a restrictor also

remember that your a/f ratio depends on more than just boost levels since you are adjusting the FLOW of the engine.
It would be good to get it retuned or if you are doing it yourself tuning wise, to start rich on your fuel map adjustments.

A restrictor plate will help a bit to keep boost in check. If you dont have one already, now is the time to get a wideband 02 sensor with the midpipe. One other thing you can do in conjunction with the restrictor plate is a resonated midpipe section. Rx-7store sells one with a rather big resonator (muffler) inplace of the cat. It will offer slightly more restriction of exhaust flow than a stright pipe, but you are going to need evevry little bit of help to keep boost incheck on those cold nights. And be sure to get it retuned on the rich side.

Chris,

Come by and try out my MP. If you don't like it, don't have to buy it.

Another thing you could do is install a pop off valve on your intercooler piping. I think its a good idea since you do a lot of track events. This will prevent from you over boosting and killing your engine.

Do you have a boost controller?? I also have several turbo manifolds and exhaust manifolds. Garfinkle will port it out for you or maybe BNR.. If you want to take one of mine and get it done, thats fine.

Ok thats what I was wondering all this for, are you gonna be around this weekend?? if so I'll try and come by then and pick it up. I'm gonna have to get some kinda boost controller before I install it.

Also can you get me a pop off valve like you've got?? or tell me where you got it, and I'll pay you for it. I'll try to give you a call tomorrow.
