Silver Bumper Discolorization

Hi,

Why do all the silver rx-7's I have looked at for sale have a discolored frond bumper?

Most likely because that's the first part that gets little dings (from driving over 100mph ) , and people get the bumper repainted with cheaper paint than factory. Also its not made of metal, paint seems to act different depending on the material that its on.

I agree, it is the plastic parts that look screwed all the time, but it seems to afflict the silver alot more than the rest

Silver is a odd color, if spayed to thin it would be almost translucent.

because it is painted a different shade, there are 7 different paintcodes for silver fd.A custom painter near me looked it up.if you look close, you can see more yellow tint on bumpers and mirrors.I was told that the body panels were painted at a different location than the bumpers.

My fd is red and had the same issue

It is a garage queen with 28K miles and it still had some discoloration. a detailer hit it with some kind of polish and it looks good again . . he said the plastic is painted different from the metal and will fade/discolor differently than the rest of the car, the wing was off also, but now it looks the same take a look.
