Signs of a bad air pump?

I have searched up to 7 pages of the forum and haven't found exact sympthoms of bad air pump. I know that it starts squeking when it's going bad, but what else.

The reason i'm asking this is, recently i installed torque brace and a heat shield for apexi intake. And somehow i get some kind of strange noise. It's mixed with mooing sound of that damn pipe. So I just want to know of any sings when the air pump is on it's way down.

At least the stories I've read, most people don't really notice any signs except for a bad idle (as the ECU is expecting the air pump to be functioning and it's not).

Most people just notice a bad idle and then see the air pump isn't working anymore.

BTW, I had a mooing sound. It was a worn out hose to the BOV.

My mooing sound comes from that pipe next to the air pump. It sound only at low rpm's below 3k.
I have normal idle, how do i check if the air pump works?
Disconnect that hose from her and see if it's sucking air?

Thanks

If it's spinning at idle, it's working.

I started getting kind of a funny noise also when I installed my ETB. It sounds like a moo/rattling and it only happens when I rev it at relatively low RPMs say areound 1500-2500.

yeah, that's what's happening to me too now. Maybe it's rubing on the ABS. I'll have to check it out.

Sorry for an insanely huge bump, but I'm assuming you're meaning the face of the pulley should be spinning at idle? If so, then I think this is a part of the problem for my incredibly high HC count. Thanks for any help guys. Sorry for all the stupid newb questions. Searching isn't proving to be super fruitful for me.

I have a short vid from my digital camera showing the pump at idle if that'll help, but I can't seem to get it hosted anywhere cause it's .MOV

What typically happens is that the airpump starts making noise and then seizes up.

You can also check to make sure air is blowing from the airpump by pulling the hose at idle.

If the airpump isn't working, first make sure the connection is good. Also make sure to check your AC fuse (as the airpump shares that fuse).

Ok. I'll give that a shot tomororow morning (at work now). I do know that the "face" of the pump pulley will move/rotate if coerced to do so by hand. However it doesn't rotate while at idle (I hope I'm explaining correctly what I mean when I say "face" of the air pump pulley). Could the air pump be contributing to the horrendous HC #'s I got this morning? Thanks for all your help. (

My air pump is definitley working (it's spinning at idle, but im not sure if its working properly. When I pulled the air hose at idle there is no air flowing. When I revved the engine, I heard a LOUD mooing noise. If I snap the throttle a few times itll blow a lot of air, but, if I hold the rpm still at maby 2000, or 2500 rpm there is no air flow at all. However, I'm not sure what exactly suppose to happen when I do this.

Heres a video

Wow thanks. I think my air pump is good, but something else is causing the air to not get to the converter

Haha I know it was ugly. Now everything is fixed (with a new engine of course).
