shut down...prob

so i just bought a 92 FD from a dealer recently, it was low on gas so i stop n fill it up, i drive it away......then 15 mins. about 20 miles later while going up a slight hill the overheat light comes on then my car shuts itself down and the engine doesnt want to start again for the rest of the night.....so iget it towed back to my place then even later that night (bout 5 hours later) the engine starts outta nowhere but my overheat light is still on in the dash, so i shut it down the put antifreeze in the engine, start engine, overheat light goes out, drive the car fine to work then when i shutdown the car, antifreeze spilling everwhere out of the overflow tank. Can some1 please tell me how bad my car is junked up? i still got a warranty from the dealer but its been sitting there for a month already not getting fixed.....thanks

Try starting the engine cold with the radiator cap removed. Look at the coolant in the filler neck - is it bubbling while the engine is running?

I'd bet that the coolant seals are fried. I hope not, but I think so.

At least you have a warranty. Im pretty sure the car is f'cked. If you're lucky, you have a coolant leak somewhere and hte system isn't holding pressure/leaking.

one of two things is happening, it needs a new AST cap, or your coolant seals have gone. I suggest the latter, which is an engine rebuild. The dealer may try and rebuild the engine and just replace the coolant seals, which is not a good idea; although he is not actually obligated to fix anything else to resolve the fault. Post up the deal here as you get it with what the dealer is planning to do and we will advise if its BS or not.

BTW, waiting on the gaskets sounds plausible to me, ask him what he is planning to do - if he says pull the engine apart, thats a step in the right direction.

i just got the car back 2 days ago and its working fine BUT i got gas then drove around for like 15 mins then i go to thbe post office shutdown the car then go inside, come back out 5 mins later and the car wont start, so i was late for work and didnt start the car till the next day, so its 1 day later and the car starts up with alittle struggling, but when i just turn on the battery before starting the engine, the add coolant light is on with the overheating light, but the car starts up everytime so far. Yet i am very weary of driving it long distsances and my mind set is that as long as i dont shutdown the car everything will go smoothly....also the car never over heats as long as im driving in it, no leaks anymore, the longest i drove it was for probably 1 hour, and its strange how im lvivng in Japan and yet cant seem to find anyone that can work a rotary.......but thanks for the replys i didnt expect half as much

With the ignition key in position 2, not starting the engine like you say, the Add coolant light SHOULD be on. It will go out when you start the car.

Where are you in Japan? anyhwhere near RE Amemiya?
