should this be plugged in?

i was taking out my air filters over the weekend for cleaning and noticed that one of the tubes was completely left open and not connected to the intake piping at all.

a close up image of the tube in question...is it supposed to connect to that plugged up hole on the pipe?

a little further back to show where it is...

i asked a question the board a while ago about how to increase the stock BOV sound and someone recommended that i disconnect one of the hoses from the intake piping. is this what they were referring to? i'm concerned that the air getting into this hose is not being passed through an air filter. thanks in advance.

Looks like the ABV which is open. If so, it's not a problem.

This is all on the assumption that it is the ABV. It's a little hard to tell by your photos.

Venting the ABV (BOV) to atmosphere just causes extra noise. The stock BOV does suck a little air at vacuum, but it won't be much of a problem. You can reconnect it to your intake and that will quiet the BOV sound. Otherwise, if you like the BOV sound, just leave it as is..

If you could remove the rest of the upper intake it would be easier to see where that tube goes and identify it.
