should i replace the fuel filter and pump??q

I just got this 92 3rd gen FD jap spec, and it has 60,000miles approx on it. see the below link for complete details and lots of pics

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/should-i-buy-1992-3rd-gen-jdm-rx7-732540/

I just got an estimate for a fuel pump-364.80$
and i just got an estimate for fuel filter-69.25$

how are those prices? they seem a little high but i am not sure for a 7.

Also I strongly doubt that those have ever been replaced and i have heard on many threads that it is a good idea to replace them.

right now the bases in Japan are on lockdown so i can not go yet but i plan on getting my 7 tuned in about 2 weeks (which has never been done on this car, before or after mods).

So should i replace these parts and if so should i get the parts stated above or is there a site that someone can refer me to that delivers to FPO boxes that has a better aftermarket part? And would it make a difference if i got these parts before or after a tuning?

thanks a bunch
Craig

i really dont understand the need for getting a new fuel pump?? but the fuel filter is a must. every 30k miles or so..it should be replaced. $70 seems like a little to much for a fuel filter. i got mine strait from mazda for like $10-$20.

other things that should be dont at around your milage is the replacing and upgrading of the tranny and diff fluid. this should help with any shifting situations you may presently have.

here is a thread i saved of what some guys have recommended for using in the tranny and diff: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...=1#post7716899

if your going to replace your fuel pump, go with a bosch or walbro, or search for a supra pump. it will not only upgrade your pump, but cost $200 or more less than a new OEM pump

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about changing the fuel pump. The stocker is about as reliable as you will find.

Well... it sure isn't fun. lol

Be prepared to get gas all over yourself. The fuel filter sits right above the differential and it is a bit difficult to get your hands up there. Having the car on a lift helps IMO.

A lot of people on this forum have relocated their fuel filter to a more accessible location. Just search "relocate fuel filter" or "fuel filter relocation" to get some ideas.

Good luck.

Is that $69 for just the filter of for replacing it too. If it does cover the labor and they know what they are doing, I would seriously consider it.

Use The Search Function...

Finneymc,

Please use the search function. Everything you want to do to your car has been covered by someone else already. Don't just ask "how difficult is it to do..." everytime...

I'm with MALS as well, i am in MCC-1 for a year then i move back to.....supply :'-( for 2 years. i hope to extend and stay out here for my whole second term.

anyways thanks for explaining the search function....i did use it and i got some real good ideas, the best idea that i got was that i am going to pay someone to do it today :-D the main reason i started this thread was to get an idea on how much the avg cost was and if it was a good idea to do it or not, not really as much on how hard. i hate the smell of gas on my hands, love it from my exhaust though lol, and i was going to pay to have it done.

I am kinda limited on where i can get parts from so i am going to go ahead and pay a little more to have it done on base.

thanks to all you guys!

The fuel filter change is truly a test of love and dedication to your car. The problem you might face, living in Japan, is the irresistible urge to find and brutally murder the engineer who decided where that thing goes. By the way, if you do find the guy, the is a pool going for whoever kills him.

fuel filter replace:
http://www.rx7.org/Robinette/fuel_filter_replace.htm

fuel filter replace with mod:
http://www.mazdarxparts.com/index.php?topic=22.0

fuel filter move:
http://www.rx7.org/Robinette/fuel_filter_move.htm

now you dont have to search....

and like what was said earlier, dont wear good clothes cause you will get fuel all over you no matter how fast you cap the fuel line. there is no way around it unless you move the filter to a reasonable location
