Shortshift kits

I'm thinking about putting a shortshift kit in my 93 R1. Anybody have any experience/suggestions/recomendations for me?

Short shifter kits makes the shift feel really nice. Feels like you have a new car. However, it's very notchy and sometimes difficult to get into gear. (I had the B&M shifter)

Which one is the best? I'm also planning on going with a short shifter.

Yeah, anybody got any imput on which to go with- Mazdaspeed or B&M? $100 extra for the Mazdaspeed isn't too convincing unless there's a catch to how well the kits work with the car. Like 93blackrx said, which one is the best?

Love my Pettit shifter. Has a nice feel. It's a little notchy when super cold, but after about a minute it's very smooth.

I got the Mazdatrix one... cost me $200. I've heard great things about the C's, but i don't like how expensive it is (around the same price as the Mazdaspeed)

I have the one that they are selling on ebay, and love it. I have had no grinding on the breakin period either. Very smooth shifting. It is also alot cheaper.

I have the B&M http://66.216.67.51/product.asp?0=207&1=293&3=268 and love it. I was missing third with my old worn out shifter and haven't missed it since with the B&M.

It was 33 degrees when I left this morning and I had no problems shifting, just ask the guy in the Mustang GT with his mouth still resting on his floorboard...(cold weather zoom...)

I have the B&M and it is great. It is stiff at first but once you get it broken in it feels great! Shifts are really smooth and short

The C's is very well weighted thats why many have heard good things about them. This provides a great feel while changing gears, as if it was assisting the shift.

Personally I would try find another shifter and get it chopped. This is easily done by anyone with a welder. After doing this, see how you like it, then think of sticking with it or getting a commercially made one. I recommend keeping the original for just in case purposes. Breakers should have another shifter, cheap.

I've had the Mazdaspeed on my car for about 8 years. Good positive feel not notchy, and the only one available when I got mine.

What type of grease did you use when installing the short shifter?

I had the C's for a couple years. When the tranny got hot it would not let me get into reverse very easily.

I even tried other gears then reverse but still had a hard time.

The C's had a short throw but was too notchy.

I now have the Mazdaspeed shifter now w/a engine torque brace. The Mazdaspeed is nice and smooth but
still missed 3rd gear a couple times this year at the track. The throw were shorter on the C's.

I will try the B&M next year.

Do they all install the same? Do they fit under the factory shift boot?
