Short shifter recommend?

Are there any short shifter brands that you guys like or prefer? Re amemiya seems nice, but I heard it doesn't really lower the throw. B&M? Mazda trix? Rx7 store? Throw in your 2 cents. Also, are there any walkthroughs for installing the shifter? It shouldn't take that long should it? Thanks!

Probably 1000 threads on this.....but B&M(and its knockoffs) are the shortest throw I know of, but notchy. Re's not quiet as short, but a lot smoother. Its all personal preference.

sorry for not searching, but searching short shifter comes up with a lot. B&M... RE... I don't have to have it THAT short, as long as it shifts really nicely. so probably RE

I love my B&M. super short throw, mine doesn't have the notchy feel. It's a little stiff right when you install it, but after about a week of using it, it loosens up and shifts super smooth. Would choose B&M again if I got another FD. Oh and it's one of the easiest ones to install there is, simple replacement of the stock one, just unbolt stock and bolt in B&M. Not sure how the RE works. Like Mako said, there's millions of threads on them. it comes up a lot when you search for it because it's been brought up so many times. take some initiative and read a lot of them if that's what it takes (you'll learn way more that way considering most don't want to keep replying to the same thread over and over)

that doesn't really change much. short shifters are not just shorter on the top, they're longer on the bottom (the part you don't see!).

see this:

anyway i had a B&M short shifter before - i feel like they tend to loosen up because they are aluminum. now i have a B&M clone made from billet steel. so far so good. the best part is that it was insanely cheap (ebay!). hopefully it doesn't loosen up too much like the B&M, but i'm pretty sure it won't since it's steel instead of aluminum.

Aluminum B&M:

Steel B&M clone Vs. Stock:

I also have the B&M. Easiest as far as install, it takes maybe 20min... But I do agree that it has a notchy feeling. I had one in a previous car and it felt the same. A little silicone lube helps the notchy feeling a bit and the longer you use it the better it feels.

I know everyone above is telling you to search and that is just because this forum has been around for a LONG time and just about everything in the world has been discussed several times. Of coarse you search came up with a million threads, its been discussed many times and now once more.. Refine your searches to search tittles only and then maybe throw in the exact shifter you are looking at. (or whatever else you need to know) Make your searches specific and then search only certain forums. The more you refine your search the less jibberish you will get as well as better info. BUT it will still require you to actually read...

I had an authentic B&M and an ebay B&M replica and they both SUCK.

Soo notchy, cant even perform semi fast shifts with confidence. It sucked during the winter and when it was warm, made notchy clicks. You can say maybe it was just me but from that experience, i would never go that route again.

Now i have a mazdaspeed SS and its by far the best. And i have went through about 4 different SS's before and this is the best one.

Had it for over 2 years now, coupled with the mazdaspeed shift **** = PERFECT

Here is a pic of my setup to give you an idea of how the mazdaspeed shifter sits height wise along with the mazdaspeed shift ****.

If you can get a hold of one, C's short throw shifters are excellent (build quality and performance).

i have a C's shifter in my FC and it is a really good shifter, in my FD i have a Gotham Racing B&M style short shifter, when i got it i took it apart and cleaned everything and re-greased everything. FC has a weighted razo **** and the FD has a weighted greddy ****. both feel great, the Gotham Racing is a bit stiffer and shorter.

I have a Mazdaspeed's and it's a little too notchy.

I got used to it and it's not so bad now but it kind of gets in the way when i want to continuously shift real fast.

Pettit racing's is short, as well, but I personally like RE-Amemiya's the most.

Check out the mazdatrix short shifter. I've been told it's a mazdaspeed replica. I love mine. I've tried alot of short shifters and I think the mazdatrix one is the best.
