short shifter install on 93

i just picked up this short shifter, i tried to install it but it almost seems to be welded onto the chasse, how do i take off the square housing that holds the entire shifter, its held down by 4bolts, then i quess u pop it off, then again it seems like it welded or melted onto the chassie, i need to replace it because my stock shifter dances all around and rattles, the pastic ball in it is broken.... please help

I am not sure, but I think I read somewhere that you may need to take a hammer and lightly tap the shifter housing till it comes loose. I am sure it is just sealed really well to the tranny especially since it has been in place for 12 years now enduring all of the heat from the tranny.

Tap on the sides of it with a hammer and it will break loose. Sealant is holding it in place.

If the seal is chewed up, get a new one from Mazda. They're not that pricey. Call Ray at Malloy Mazda and he'll get you a good price and get it to you quick - 888-533-3400.

Apply a thin layer of RTV with the new shifter. Make sure you have some tranny oil in there before you seal it up.

As far as protecting the interior from the exhaust smell, you should have come insulation material as well the rubber cover. If you don't have those (or they are damaged), try calling Ray at Malloy Mazda to see if you can order them.

can you use fiberglass insulation? like the ones that plumbers use to wrap steel heating pipes in the basement??

i have some in my basement, i was thinking of cutting up some pieces and using that as my insulation material..or is there something better?
