Other short shifter kits that do not come with the base look similar.

I have one of these, never installed it because there were no directions and I didn't want to just guess. The 3 bolt is right, see the photo below for the stock setup with shifter out.
If you install one, let me know how it worked and maybe some blow by blow instructions.

The mazdaspeed is similar.

You replace the actual shifter shaft instead of removing its "base". It comes with the necessary collar and hardware to make it fit with your stock shifter BASE.

Its literally a 15 minute job.

I have the mazdaspeed version and i love it.

^^^ I did mine too, if you have a Mazdaspeed or C's copy here is how it install

remove stock shifter but not the base
remove big space with notch on each sides and wave washer underneath it

now with the new shifter

install metal spacer that comes with new shifter
put in wave washer
put in spacer with notch
put in big ring spacer
put shifter
and bolt it on and your done...

Yeah, its really easy. Basically self explantory, even if you dont have the instructions.

I have had alot of shifters during my time of ownership, (a few here can vouch for that LOL) and i got the MS and im never changing it.

If anyone cares to see what shift throws are like, here is a crappy vid i made a while ago. I only went up to 4th gear though.
