Question Shipping GoodfellaFD3S "7" What's been you experience with "Car Movers"?

I'm looking into shipping Rich's RX-7 from Texas to New Jersey... I've contacted several "Car Mover Company's" and still don't feel confortable with any particular vendor. I don't have to tell you how important this car is to my son... so, should I decide to ship his, I'd like to do it with the knowledge that I taken every step I can to insure the Shipper is good!

I you've shipped an auto recently, especially an FD and had a good experience with a particular moving company and would care to share, we'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Rich Sr.

i had some luck...but what i did was KNOW a friend at FORD who had the vehicle shipped for me to their distribution center. I dont know if you have any pals who work for the car manufacturing companies but that was a successful route i found.

A good experience? Sorry. This one is about a BAD experience.

I'd take a long weekend, fly down, and drive it back.

im gonna have to agree with this one, mr. farrell. i wouldnt trust any of the shippers either. although, you might want to contact bryan at BNR. i know he just bought an FD out of state, but i dont know if he had it shipped or not. he might have a good shipper. i still think the best bet is to fly down and drive up. . . i know its a long drive, but its worth it. . . plus, youd get to feel those BNR's for the whole half country ride!!!

paul

ps: thats how the alphabet would look if there were no "Q" or "R". haha, actually i wanted to thank you for the tires!!

I had mine shipped from NC to MD on a roll-off. It was a bit more expensive to get the guy (from a towing company) to make the drive but i could not be happer with the results. I hope this helps out some....

i had good experience using "national mover" or something to that effect (sorry it was 6 yrs ago). they shipped the car on an open trailer from maryland to california in about a week and a couple days time...the car arrived with LOTS of bugs on the rear bumper but it arrived just fine. take a photo of the odometer and clear shots of the fenders and doors and overall condition of the car. make sure to use a camera with a time and date stamp and take pictures of the car (you can use the pictures as evidence in case anything should happen).

they might be called 'national transporter' or something...:P i can't remember!

I have not transported my car yet so I have no experience but from people who have recommended the following companies.

Intercity lines
Horseless carriage
DAS

Intercity lines I have heard only good things about from a friend who has transported several Ferrari's.

He also recommended DAS which is the car transport company for eBay.

Many of the exotic car owners use Horseless Carriage but I know of no one who has expereince with them.

You may be able to get a better rate from the above companies if you opt for "stand-by" pick up date.

I've used DAS to ship a car before and had zero problems. I had it shipped in a closed container, was a little extra money, but definately worth it imo.

I sent my TII to Texas by DAS, and it made it there in one piece.

Because I'm shipping off to war for at least 6 months and need someone to look after the car and store it in a garage.

i had my FD shipped from north carolina to iowa this summer with DAS. prices were ~600 on a flatbed not covered and i had to drive down to omaha (hour and a half away) to pick it up, covered to omaha for 900 and covered to my door for 1100.

i had it shipped on the flatbed uncovered, and didn't have any problems. it was just a little dusty, nothing a quick wash won't fix.

if you have a truck, it might be worth it to rent a trailer or flatbed for a long weekend and drive down and pick it up. that way you won't have to worry about not knowing if anything bad happened.

DAS autoshippers is the best I have seen. I have had 2 FD's shipped. One from vancuver to Denver, the other from Vero Beach Florida to denver. The first was a PITA and it looked like the car was not taken care of. The second time I used DAS and the service and attention given to the car was superb. Cost 1200 to ship it in an enclosed carrier. It took them 10 days to get it here from pick up to delivery. Car had no new damage. They go through everything when they pick it up and THUROUGHLY inspect the car. They even found dents and nicks I could not see. I would highly reccomend them.

I work right next door to an auto transporter yard, and I must say, It is quite funny to watch them doing what they do so well.

The truck drivers seem to take great pride in being able to do better burnouts, and donuts, then the rest of their counterparts. It is really quite amusing to watch. Especially, with the Benz's and the Exotics.

I, one day, watched a driver rifling through all of the vehicles he had loaded on his truck. He was pulling all of the goodies out of the trunks and glove boxes, that he thought he would like to keep. I think it was some kind of a tax, but I am not exactly sure.

By far the funniest is during summer when the drivers are out there loading up their trucks with no shirts on. Work with me on this one. Visualize a truck driver, more hair on his back than most gorillas. Sweating up a storm, sitting on your fine leather car seat. Can you imagine what the new owner must be thinking when they recieve the car, and cannot figure out just "what is that smell"

Make a small investment in time, and drive the car. Also, stay away from Johnny's transport.

okay, everybody started mentioning DAS. . . well, i work for DAS. i work in conjunction with NISSAN auto manufacturer. the people that move the cars looooooooooooooove to get the good ones. they drive the **** out of them. the move them from lot to lot. . . very fastly. they kinda have to. if they get ahold of one of the new 350z's then they just drive it like they stole it. i would assume they would do that to an rx7 as well.

dont get me wrong. . . i love my job, but i dont think its a good idea to let them drive that car.

hell, im almost positive we can get a couple of guys to run a relay up to jersey. id be willing to do so. . . and id never be stupid enough to tear into an officers car!!!
that would more than likely come back to bite this lowly E-3!!!

have fun,
paul

In November I had my car shipped from Mountain View, CA to Plymouth, MI. I used Intercity and they did an awesome job. Took a little over a week for them to get it to me. They inspect the car before they roll it on the truck at pick up and have all the imperfections noted so if there is something else wrong with the car and is not on the sheet they will pay for the repairs. They only offer enclosed carriers.

I have a shipping quote from Intercity to transport my car from NJ to CA. They quoted me $1700. It's another $150 if the car doesn't run.
So, I guess if you don't want them to drive it, disable the car so that it can't be started and then pay the extra $150 "tariff"

Horseless Carriage they deal with many different exotic cars all the time. It maybe a little more expensive but at least you know these people have the experience and a good reputation. Mr Farrel, driving it back here would be the best bet but in this cold snap with all the salt and chopped up roads from the snowplows i wouldnt risk driving it. Ship it
www.horselesscarriage.com and save yourself a headache.

PS-- Its cold here in Jersey!!!!!
