Shiny new exhaust
The first bit on the road to a nice rebuilt FD
http://www.learnanddo.com/Personal/SMB/Paul.jpg
It's from SMB in Australia - they did the exhaust for the special edition (SP?) they did over there. 4" Ti tip, 3" all the way through, cat is metallic substrate so flows much better than a high flow cat (I don't actually need a cat over here), and all proper stainless.
Be nice to get rid of the rusting horror that is a HKS Super Drager

The exhaust is made in Australia, and the goofy looking bend on the downpipe is for ALL RHD cars to clear the steering column.
BTW, I have an SMB high-flow cat, and LOVE it. Fit and quality is SUPERB. You're gonna be very pleased with that setup.

Dito a few local FD's here run that exhaust setup so refreshing to see something different.
SMB also make the rare carbon fibre SP airbox but it'll cost you an arm and a leg...roughly $1.5k AUS last time I checked so by far the most expensive intake system I've seen.

I was wondering about that bend but going by the other tailpipes in that order it looks like the light....I'll check with the guy who has them tho.
efini82: doing the rebuild myself
SMB are here... http://www.smb.net.au/ I got the full 3" system with 4" tip

It's either the light or his exhaust was damaged in shipping
Here's what their pieces look like: http://www.smb.net.au/fullsystemsmazdarx7.htm

LOL, this thread is hilarious.
1. you can totally tell its mendrel bend.. just the lighting cuz its polished... by looking at the outer curvature against the carpet
2. STOP LOOKING AT EBAY!! ALL JDM DOWNPIPES LOOK LIKE THAT. FROM HKS, FEED, EVERY JAPANESE FD TUNER!!!! due to RHD, they have less clearance next to the turbo.

2. I WASN'T TALKING ABOUT THE DOWN PIPE, JUST THE CAT-BACK PORTION!!!!!!!!! Please re-read my post, there was never a mention of the down pipe. I even have the cat-back circled on the picture 3 posts above. I'm the last person you need to accuse of buying **** on E-bay.

Davin: If you go to SMB's website (link is in one of my posts) then they have a link about different catalytic convertors.
fdeeznutz: The exhaust etc is from Australia and yes we do know what mandrel bends are But I'm with you from the light it looked crush bent to me as well.
RX7LINK: It's the steering column that gets in the way.

Well while it's apart it's getting a large street port by WGT, injectors cleaning (can't afford to up them yet), already have a PFC which'll need fitting and tuning. Not going overboard, 300 @ the wheels would be nice, just to keep it running reliably then onto the exterior then it'll be back to do a single turbo etc. I have long term plans
Also hoping to be able to afford to go v-mount.

You made the best choice...these exhausts are incredible. Sound delicious as well.
Pity you didnt go the full hog and get the 3.5" system...they are still incredibly quiet and mellow (Unless you actually put your foot down )

above is a link to a thread on my exhaust from SMB , including lots of pics, and comparison pics to the stock **** exhaust. You may have to sign up to the Australian Ausrotary site to view..I am unsure..(A good site anyways..some of us Aussies are pushing the limits on FD3s nowadays as well...)
PS..my car in that link still has a dead engine...I am not in a rush to get it back on the road as I would prefer to do it right..and I aint rich enough to do it quickly )

Cheers Well after some discussion with a guy on a UK forum he was running ~450whp on the 3" system so that'll keep me happy for quite a while.
Tried the link and tried to sign up but it said I entered the confirmation code wrong....twice in a row!? I think not. Have mailed the admin.
Yup there's a lot of nice FDs you guys have over there
