Shiftknob removal

I purchased a mazdaspeed shiftknob which i have been trying to install for a little while today. I seem to be having some problems getting the existing shiftknob off. No matter how hard I turn it does not budge at all. I have some locking pliers that are being used to hold the base of the shifter (i have the center cover pulled up) but even with my younger brother holding the pliers and me turning the **** (counter-clockwise) it will not come off. Ive been using the pliers because putting that much force on the shifter connections and tranny cannot be good...What am I doing wrong?? Should it really be this hard to get it off??

it should just unscrew. maybe the previous owner put some locktite on it. Oh, and you are turning it counter clockwise right(not trying to be an ***)

Doesn't sound like your doing anything wrong, when I removed mine it was pretty hard also. I tightened it 1st a bit to break the seal and then I went counter clockwise and it started to come off. Mine was glued down.

when i turn my stock one off, i took my right hand (since im a righty LOL) and gripped the shift **** tight, i then took my left hand and grabbed onto my right hand realll hard.. before i started turning, both of my hands were locked on the **** and i started to shake cause i was using soo my pressure and strength.. i started to turn counterclockwise and like 3 seconds later, it budged and i unscrewed it..

btw, i had a hard time trying it with one hand at first...
