serious questions
I am looking for anybody with good knowledge on just about everything to do with an rx-7. I don't yet own one, but I am first going to build the engine to it and go step by step. I contacted usedengines.com and he quoted me about 2500 on a triple rotary and the works. I don't know much about how the triple rotary compares to the double, and what types of rx-7s it was put in. But anything will help. And if there is more that i can do to a triple or a double? Which one can handle the most power? Which one has more parts available? If there is somewhere that anybody knows of where to buy engineless rx-7s for cheap, that would be appreciated too. I want it to be a third generation obviously because they are flawless, but what are the main differences in the different models, I didn't know there were different models of them until today. Thanks for anything helpful.

I'll try and be serious in case you are:
is the 20b already in the works?
first off
13b is the 2 rotor
20b is the 3 rotor
there is also a 4 rotor but there is no need to even consider that unless you want to spend $100,000 just for the motor, then find a custom car to drop it in, etc.
Next, the 3rd gen is also refered to as the FD3S or FD of short. There are a few different models but the main difference is the r1/r2 have dual oil coolers, strut bars, stiffer suspension, no cruise control, and spoilers (front and rear) whereas the base, pep, etc. don't.
The more rotors the more power it can handle. Also the more rotors the more expensive parts are and the harder they are to find. What are you trying to do with the car? A ported 13b with a single turbo and all the other goodies will run you a good chunk of change. A 20b with a single turbo and install will run you an insane amount. Just a figure for you to play with: Pettit does the 20b swap for ~$35k and that includes the engine. Putting a 20b inside the FD is not as easy as dropping it in. This project is no easy task but if you got money to 'waste' then go for it!

The 3-Rotor (20B) is not a direct drop in replacement engine into the 3rd Gen RX-7.
It's a pretty good size project if you are really going to build up a FD with a 20B in it. Be warned that you will be spending upwards of $10-15k extra getting that 20B into the car.
If you are just looking to learn about the rotary engine and not undertake such a task, just get a 2-Rotor 13B and build it up.

Gee, everybody responded similarly to how I did with the midpipe poster below. Hostile, hehe.
"i do have an endless supply of cash so i can do what i want to it"
I agree, sounds very middle-teenish. The cheapest people on earth are the ones with the most money. It's usually people with no money (or people who have everything given to them) that spend the most (on a relative basis).
If you are truly serious, you will have to spend hundreds of hours researching this forum as well as other web pages -- posted in the newbie sticky at the top. I would also contact some of the vendors around the company who know something about this -- PFS, Pettit, Alamo Rotary, probably KD. There are others of course.
If you are not serious, go away. We get almost daily posts from 15 year olds about dropping 20B engines in FDs they'll never have. I hope that explains some of the hostility from some of the members. Most of us cringe when we see posts like yours. No offense.

It should be fairly easy...
seeing as how i also have an 'endless' supply of funds, i got bored last year and built a self-launching spaceship, with a self-contained lunar roaming module (2 seater)... i tried it once, got bored with it, and put it on ebay....... not too many buyers though...

I'm a CF and poop smith
If ya got about $10-40k (minus the cost of the car), Im sure you can do the conversion or pay someone to do it. One good thing I can tell you is that the new AEM ecu should beable to handle the 20b.
Good luck
P.S. FD's arnt perfect but they are a lot better then most cars out there

See I take my money and invest it. I invested it into this new tv show. And this is what happens every time on every episode. There are monkeys on branches playing with rotary engines throwing guacomolie at beavers under umbrellas. That ones for you Shivy.

not to be such a jerk or anything of the like towards curt, but it just really bothers me when somebody proclaims how they "have an endless supply of cash."
