I hear you, well I guess she will go in the garage for about two months. Looks like it might be cheaper to just to buy a new motor.

You'd probably pay $1000.00-$1500.00+ for a used motor, so to me it wouldn't be worth it to even take someones word that a used motor is "good".

I think you can get a reman Mazda engine for around $2200. That will probably be the least expensive route, I might be wrong with that number, though. If you are looking for a little more power check out Pineapple racing. I know of a couple of high hp engines from there and he is very reasonable and has a long warranty. I would stay away from the ebay thing. A little more money will equal a lot fewer headaches in the long run.

It does sound like the motor. My old 2nd Gen did the same thing, just driving normal. Then it started to run really bad and no power. I drove it home which was a mistake. The cat was so hot that it warped both the exhaust manifold and the intake (I only figured out the intake several months after the new motor when it kept blowing out intake gaskets). What I did is use a regular compression gauge, pull a plug on each rotor, put in the gauge, crank and see what the compression was. I had no compression in the rear rotor. This is a pretty cheap way to test.
