Sensors on tranny question

Ok if your looking at the tranny from the drivers side there is 2 sensors

One is at a low point and one is higher up and to the right...What is this lower one???

If its not the speedometer sensor where is that..

The reason im asking is the wire was so old and busted (on the lower one) that it snapped it self clean off.

Thanks guys

Lower one is the park/neutral switch. Upper one is the 1st & 2nd switch. Backup lamp switch is the one on the passenger side.

Just terminology. Neutral is considered 'park' on a manual car.

$5 says I'll get asked what the transmission on the left is, though.
