Selling a FD for a family friend and am looking to get more info on the vehicle.

Like the title says I am going to be posting up a RX-7 FD for a friend of my mom. I'm a car guy so I know that the car is rare and desirable, but as far as like trim level or anything else I really don't know much. Just from reading through other forum posts I don't believe it is a base model. The car has the spoiler and also the chin spoiler, and has the red strut tower brace. But does not have the micro suede seats like I'm reading the R1 package has. So if anyone could give me any more info on maybe what the vehicle exactly is and maybe what its worth compared to others that would be great. The lady bought the car used in 94 with like 2k miles on it and it now has like 65k. All original. Garage kept all its life. The only problems that I saw with it was the clearcoat was starting to peel on the spoiler other that that its in perfect condition. thanks in advance for any help The VIN is JM1FD3315P0202377

just a few indications:

R1/R2: no sunroof/moonroof, no bose tube in the rear
R1/R2 has an extra oil cooler on passenger side

I'm sure others will provide more details

Looks like a rather solid survivor! To get pictures of the oil coolers, take a picture looking into the cooling ducts on each side of the front end - if it was an R1/R2 model you'll clearly see an oil cooler on each side. It's a manual transmission, correct?

Definitely a survivor. Someone will really enjoy that car in their garage. Or we could all enjoy it if you part it out Black interior has been a tough one to come by lately

It's an r1 or r2 I think
be a good idea to get it serviced and checked by a regional specialist
buff her off and she'll go $40-60k this year, maybe more next summer

The VIN indicates it is a 1993, so it might be an R1. [edit: it is a 1993 R1, based on a look-up of the VIN on the NHTSA recall site.]

Your pics show a car without a cruise control module in the engine bay. The R1 model came without cruise control. Although someone (e.g., the Mazda dealer) might have added the rear spoiler, strut tower bar and front lip to a base model, it would have been a lot of work to remove all traces of the cruise control system. If there is no cruise control button on the dash and no cruise switches on the steering wheel, chances are it never had cruise and is an R1.

So far, your description of the seat covering seems to be the only thing suggesting this is not an R1, but the seats might be later replacements.

Along with checking to see if it has a 2nd oil cooler, posting pictures of the rear compartment, dashboard, steering wheel and seats would help.

Also, see if you can read a part number on any of the shocks. R1 models had different shocks than all other US models:

Most likely a red '93 R1. As stated the seats may have been swapped or re-covered.

This is a desirable car and looks to be in decent shape. Get it professionally detailed and get some good pictures taken for an ad and you can get really good money for it.

Whatever you end up listing it for, please do share a link. I’d definitely be interested in the car, was going to wait to get a second FD but if it’s as nice as this would consider buying one sooner than later.

Really nice FD

Original cars like that are now extremely rare. I would sell it on BringATrailer... you're likely to get the best price there, and it will likely go to someone who has the means to keep it in good condition.

Alright guys, went over and detailed the car today and took a bunch of pictures and looks like it is 100% the R1 model. Turns out it does actually have the micro suede seats not leather. And it does have that second oil cooler. And there are no sings of cruise control at all. Thanks for all your help. I will be listing it just Facebook to start but will likely end up putting the car on BAT. More pictures included for your viewing pleasure. Also she did say that the little leather stripe on the seat bottom was put there to cover up a cigarette burn mark from the previous owner.

That my friend is a beautiful R1. It's going to fetch a pretty good price, can't wait to see it go up.

That leather stripe is an ingenious solution to patching a cigarette burn, haha.

Looks very original down to the stock radio, and the panel gaps look good. Very nice example.

Yep you should be able to get top dollar for that car. Nice, stock, clean, garaged, and cared for.

In this market I'd probably start with a higher asking price then work down. You may be surprised that someone jumps at a price higher than you would think.

Good luck! That's a really nice car. And yes 100% red '93 R1 package.

Also here is some good resources for finding pricing -

https://bringatrailer.com/mazda/rx-7-fd/

You can see what they listed for there.

Also from @tomsn16 a good overview of FD pricing, he has owned probably hundreds of FD's and knows the market well -

"FOR WHAT IT"S WORTH
Here's my current valuation guide for _"need nothing".. LHD FD's
'93..........94
$10K $15K.........interior
$20k $20K.........exterior
$15K $15K........drivetrain
$45K $50K........total.

$60k $70K Mint (under 30k miles, 5spd, hardtop, black interior)"

You have some big pluses - relatively low miles, stock or near stock, R1 package, manual transmission, and a desirable color. The only thing that would make it worth more is if it was a '94 or 95 and if it was in white (which is probably the most desirable color). You're probably staring at $45k - $50k easy, but to get the higher numbers you'll need some good pics and as much information as you can put together.

Hope this works out for you!

You can run a graph of BAT sales. Say the last 100 or so. Draw a line through the top level of dots. Your price is at the end of the line.

Colorado car, eh. Best take a wee look at the undercarraige.

(Did 1993's have the seat back pouch?)

VIN number would indicate an early 1992 manufacture?

there were no 1993 model year Rx7's made in the calendar year of 1993. the 1993 model year production run for North America was December of 1991 to June of 1992

Looks like a really nice driver's R1 with some interesting seats. You could find some suede seats without too much trouble. Thought I saw some recently.
Might take a fin key to those oil coolers. You could get new OEM replacements, kinda spendy.

When did they switch over to having a pocket on the back of the drivers seat?
