Rode for 8 years.... I no longer own a bike for my FD. My opinion, more than worth it.

If I lived in the mountains still, I would miss a bike more. But honestly, when I drive my FD down the road I don't regret it one bit. Though the FD is an infinite money pit compared to a bike, it's a choice that I would never go back on.

May sound too grown up, but bikes are very dangerous. I have close friends who have been injured seriously on bikes. I have bit the pavement a few times, but nothing too serious. I would have died instantly a few times with close calls though. My friend walks with a limp & is stainless steel from his hip to his ankle because some idiot ran a red light at 35mph.... In a car, even as light as our FD's, the injury would have been no way comparable.

I love riding, but FD's are infinitely more rare & twice as gorgeous. Graveyards are full of riders who did everything right, & still bit the bullet.

I agree w/ this fellow. Smart man. I have a 10th AE I am selling that is heavily modded and got offered a modded busa in trade yesterday and passed w/out hesitation. I would be dead if I owned a bike. Too many friends w/ close calls.

I've ridden for about 25 years, including quite a few track days, and I've only been down a couple of times - no serious injuries. 95% of accidents on motorcycles are related to:

1) inexperienced, untrained riders, who don't bother to hone their skills on the track and don't read up on the fundamentals of sport riding (throttle control, body positioning, braking, etc) - this is an intense sport that demands commitment, anything less invites disaster

2) drinking - sport riding requires absolute 100% of your concentration at all times

3) riding in congested areas - again, I ride only in low traffic areas now, riding in the city IS dangerous, because there are too many idiots who don't belong behind a wheel

Life itself is a risk, you can always talk yourself out of things, but that's not really living. Sportbikes have always been, and continue to be, the performance per dollar bargain of the century, so "I can't afford both" doesn't really work. Anyone can pick up a used YZF-R6/R1 for $4k and get out there

I love riding, but FD's are infinitely more rare & twice as gorgeous.
I guess I won't argue that, but "rare" doesn't detract from the blissful sensation of grabbing a handful of throttle on an almighty ZX-10R and blasting down a winding two lane with acceleration and speed that would leave any FD on this little forum for dead....there really is no comparison....think you're fast in an FD? you aren't, and this is from a 12 year die-hard FD fan

Graveyards are full of riders who did everything right, & still bit the bullet.
And far more riders who enjoyed a lifetime of fantastic memories, my dad being one, at age 73

I am in agreement with ya bro. It was hard letting it go. There IS NO replacement for that feeling. Rode 600's & liter bikes, and they are all blindingly fast. I agree that experience has A LOT to do with accident proneness... I will also agree that there are many riders who have enjoyed a lifetime of riding....

I guess when it came down to it, I love Rx7's more. I've owned 8 of them over a 14 year period, and I was finally able to get an FD last August.

I certainly don't have any plans to sell the FD, just wish I could stop getting (expensive) tickets in it

When a very good friend of mine who has raced bikes for a living and fun for 20+ years and has been over 200+ on a bike told me he would never ride on the street again I listened.

I understand what you guys are saying, but you are not in control of everything and it just takes one mistake and I am not implying its yours. Let's face it we are human and it happens every day. If you have a family I would say ditch the bike. If you single then its at least a little different.

At least when some one runs a red light they have to go through the door and renforcement to get to you in a car.

^wow great deal...
That is a nice ride, i could get something like that right now. Im selling the bike to get something along the lines for example of the car that GorillaRe has for sale right now in the for sale section. He is selling it for a pal of his that has past away. That is the caliber of vehicle that im looking to get into. If not, then i would not be selling this bike at all.

100% truth right there...

I never rode b/c they were rare, or I got a lot of attention on one. I don't even own an FD b/c of that.. I ride b/c I cannot live without it (again, sounds overly dramatic but gmonsen knows what I am talking about). I own the FD b/c I just LOVE the car and how it drives, its like no other car.. Right now I currently do not have a bike and it is literally painful to have the great weather we have now and not be able to just go ride for a while.

That said, I also try and keep from riding in town as well... It IS too dangerous. Too many nit-whits out there text-messaging, talking, and thinking they own the road and they have the "right" to be wherever on the roadway they wish.

On a different note, I just love Suzuki's. Love the semi-notchy gearbox and the throttle response. Never been on a 10R, but I have owned gsxr's, R1's, an RC51 (loved that thing though it was underpowered for a liter bike IMHO) and ridden a few other hondas. I don't think the new 1000RR is too ugly, the ZX14 takes the cake in the ugly awards.. Sorry, FUGLY is an accurate term.

OP, again my vote is to sell one of the DD's and keep the bike.

The K5/6 GSXR is still regarded by many to be the monster motor of all time, but the '06-'07 ZX-10R is right there, most of them average about 165 rwhp. Of course, that has now been eclisped by the Beemer S1000RR, which is closer to 180, but it's all peak power, 10k and up - not particularly street friendly. The ZX-10R is without question the nicest shifting bike I've ever owned (clutchless is effortless), and the power delivery is just about perfect in my opinion. I expect the 2011 10R will dominate, but my current bike is plenty fast enough, you find yourself over 120 in short order when you grab the throttle - anyone who experiences it doesn't go back to a (loud, slow) Harley

Sounds like I am going to have to see if I can steal a ride on a 10R. The R1 I had a great gearbox and I was impressed with the handling but still want another gixxer... My RC51 just sounded bad *** and the low end torque of the vtwin was amazing when I was carving through the rockies where I used to live. Harleys..Blah. They sound cool and that is about it. My father in law has a nice LARGE touring harley and i have gotten on it a few times. It is just weird. Not my cup of tea...

i waited till i got married, then i got the FD, then a yamaha R6, then i divorced, now i have a truck too.

my advice: ditch the bike, get the FD. if you want to ride a bike later, itll be a small purchase later

I got rid of my 2005 GSXR 1000 the hard way last November from a high side equaling a shattered leg and 2 crushed vertebrae. Wife told me no more bikes. I got a truck, then a camaro, then somehow ended up with an FD about a month ago. I think that was the best choice I have made involving a vehicle!

after working as a paramedic during my college days and picking up guys off the road and toting them to them to the hosp, i could never own a bike ... im prob missing out, but after what i have seen, no way Jose. I even visited guys still in the hosp and watching their family suffer through that as well is beyond fubar!

imo, keeping or selling the bike shouldn't be a financial decision...

Well, again, for every horror story there are 100 other stories of a life well lived on a motorcycle, you just don't hear about those. This is a world increasingly paranoid about health and safety, to the point where it's now overbearing....fear is used to control people, which is why the world is inevitably headed for "666"

I'll continue to twist the throttle on my ZX-10 and laugh at the safety *****

Maybe when you find the one you want they will be willing to trade your bike plus some cash.

There was a wreck there the night before and they "forgot" to clean the road surface where the vehicle went off road and kicked up a bunch of debris. I went through it (In a turn no less) and went into a low side, somehow recovered and got it back upright, at that point I was in the dirt and grass...hit a small mud slick and the front end cocked over hard enough for my arm to do this:

After that I went end over end while still hanging on to the clip-ons. Throttle racked up to red line the second flip and the rear wheel hit the ground probably around 120mph (free-spinning) and the caught the ground again. It spun me and the bike sideways. The swing arm blasted me in the back and hit me down the hill like a baseball bat on a racquetball. I ended up landing in mud with my left leg and instantly stopped, thus shattering my leg almost to my knee.

I would ride tomorrow for eternity again if I could. I am not scared of bikes, I dont blame the bike either, but the horror that my friends and family went through is enough for me to decide not to get another one. Not to mention the hospital is the suckiest place in the world to get any kind of rest.

Bike faired way better than I did. I have some graphic injury pics, but I wasnt about to be [I]that guy[I] that makes everyone sick to their stomach. Still ended up getting over 2k$ for this bike earlier in March of this year on craigslist. Had nearly 34k on the clock. I daily drove it for 3 years. Rain/Shine/Sleet/Snow. Love it still!
