Whataya mean by weird sound? That sounds eerily similar to my symptoms when my secondary was dead. It sounded like metal on metal grinding, but it was intermittent, not a constant sound.

If it is more like a air sound from the Relief valve opened then sounds like my problem. It just amazing how my 3rd gen owners have had this problem. Sad to say but from my research it can be so many things. You just have to start checking the easiest and most likely things first.

Try a search.. Thats were I got alot of my info from.
I still have not fixed mine and if I do not find the problem soon I am going the non sequential route to solve it..

FWIW, the '93 Rx7 manual has a troubleshooting guide in section F of the control system. I'm sending my Rx7 in to the dealer to have a diagnostic check done to see if there are service codes pointing to bad CCA, CR, TC solenoids.

Can you not just pull codes yourself? Or is that not a memorized code? Sleepr1, are you having the same problem? I am thinking of testing all solenids this weekend. I wonder if checking the volts at the computer during idle would also help??

No those codes will only show up when you hook up the SST (special service tool)--diagnostic computer--to your diagnositics "box", which is located near the battery. There will be output service code numbers. Each service output number is specific for a certain solenoid. Cavaet emptor,,,the diagnositic service codes only tell you if you have a short or open circuit in the solenoid. NO service code output doesn't mean your solenoids are good. The output service codes will NOT only tell you if your solenoid valves are opening/closing like they should. This can only be tested by manully pulling the solenoid and testing each with a voltmeter, 12-volt power source, and blowing through each port. The engine diagnostic check is a place to start. My problem is poor acceleration in the rpm range higher than 4200 rpm. The boost reading is correspondingly low (8-0-4 pattern). I need to rule out mechanical issues such as boost leaks before diving into the solenoid rack (P-I-T-A!!!) If you look in the FD manual there is a trouble shooting matrix, that you can go through to see all the possible causes of the poor acceleration performance. Turbo control has quite a few "dots" that could be responsible for poor acceleration. Other causes are bad omp solenoid, fuel line blockage, etc. My gut tells me, either one or all of the following turbo control system solenoids are responsible for my general lack of acceleration performance--turbo control (1 or 2), charge control, charge relief, precontrol, wastegate control. Note there are TWO turbo control solenoids. One is located near the air control valve near the intake manifold (known as the turbo control actuator solenoid), the other is in the solenoid rack buried under the UIM.

What does Mazda charge for this? I wounder if you have an aftermarket computer will they still work on it? or maybe you just have to switch back to the stock one.

I think I will test the selonids this weekend and post my results. Mike

I'm having turbo troubles as well. I can hear the turbo's spooling but don't feel any sorta boost until around 5500 RPM. Unfortunately I don't have a boost guage yet, so I have no idea what is going on in there. Took the car to the track a few weeks ago and ran 16.7, 16.8, and 16.1 That pretty much confirmed to me that something was wrong, and I wasn't just imagining it.
