Unhappy Secondary boost troubleshoot by mechanic?

How long should it take for an "experienced" RX-7 mechanic? I feel as though I am getting a raw deal. It has taken "8 hrs" of work so far with no luck and I have been told it will be 2 more days. Is this reasonable?

I have been told that a couple hoses were changed and that they are all ok now, that both turbos are working, that the computer scan shows nothing. And so it seems that they will NOW take a closer look at solenoids and now take off the manifold, etc...

So..is 2 MORE days reasonable for that job considering what has already been done? Or am I getting snowed here?

PS - boost was 0.8 bars - 0.6 - 0.5 - 0.4 , etc (secondary wasn't kicking in)

Boost problems are very difficult to diagnose, particularly on a sequential twin turbo. There are so many hoses and solenoids and crap that could have problems it's not even funny.

I say stop right now. I have been having turbo problems for a long time and have spent "alot" of money to fix the boost problems. The mechanic that worked on my car said he is for sure the engine harness was bad on my car and wanted $2,400 to replace it, which was the cause of my turbo problems. I didn't go through with it and 2 months later, I found out that I miss routed a wrong vaccum hose which vented all boost and my turbos now work. I ended up paying a total of $1,000 for a miss routed hose. Damn I'm stupid. Most likely your TCA is bad. Search some more and eventally you will find you problem. Plus you will get very familiar with the car and eventually work on it and save alot of $$$$$$$$

i think for 8 hours an 'experienced mechanic" could have re-done a complete hose jub for you and even turned your car non-sequential if you wanted. As stated, there are a lot of problems. But check the TCA, or the CRV (make sure not leaking) etc.

Yea there are alot of things it COULD be but a "experience" 3RD GEN mechanic would know what too look at right away and if its not those would prob just do a vac job or reccomend non seq, and test the sensors if you wanted to stay seq.

As a comparison I think Mazda charges 12 hrs labor to replace the motor with requires all that same stuff to be removed and replaced along with a lot of other stuff. I can pull my uim in 30 minutes and look at all the vac lines. After that all thats left is to replace the bad ones (or all of them) and test the solenoids. If someone is familiar how everything should look or has a vac diagram its not that hard or time consuming. If he know what to look for and is experiance 8 hours is long enough in my opinion.....maybe 10 at the most but I wouldnt have gone that far. I would have dont it myself for $30 worth of vac line on a Sat and Sun.

You're getting tooled. Check out this page for troubleshooting. If nothing else, give your mechanic this list to limit his diagnostic time.

Good info guys. And I would also agree that I am getting tooled. FYI I have printed out that info on that link but felt it wasn't really my place to give it to him.

I think that I have just changed my mind.
