Searched And Still Have???
I was just given (don't hate me) a stock '93 RX with 51K and no mods except the recalls. My father in law was the original owner. I have two questions.
1. It has a smell (almost like burning) after driving a few miles. Can't smell it until you get out of the car. Seems to be coming from under the cockpit (both sides). He says it has done this since he bought it new and has had numerous people try to figurre it out. Has anyone on here ever experienced this and if so is there a fix?
2. It seems to shimmy sideways when going around curves and hitting a bump. Shocks seem to be fine (did the bounce test) and tires are about 50%. Any ideas?
I want to address these two things then maybe do some reliabilty Mods. The car is still in Hawaii but will be shipped to me in Oceanside Ca. soon.
Thanks in advance for any help.

The burning smell is probably oil seeping out from a leak onto the block and baking off. I had the same problem and three probable sources are the oil pan, rear main seal, and the 2 o-rings under the oil filter mounting block. After fixing these three leaks which were all pain in the asses the burning smell has gone away.
Another Devil Dog!
The shimmy could be other things than just the shocks. Trailing arms, tow links and bushings can all contribute to a loose rear end.
Say hello to Pendleton for me. I miss that place.
