SEARCHED: Actual differences in DOT requirements for JP vs US FD

I have searched and was interested if anyone actually had the differences in the Japan Spec and US version FD3S. I am in the process of getting the "letter form Mazda" stating what differences there may be.

Windshield, Airbag, Emissions obviously.

I cant think of any bracing or crash equipment.

I have my US spec FD sitting in FL for all the parts I need to swap over but my Registered Importer and I need to know what exactly on a Japan spec doesnt meet DOT requirements. I will have to buy a catalytic converter. Will the install of only a main cat solve US EPA requirements? In other words can I make an FD legal with just a good cat?

any info will be appreciated.

To import a car it has to meet Federal emissions standards. Well long enough for them to record it. After that.....
