Scoot Hood Questions

I plan on getting a Scoot Style hood soon. I was just about to order the CF Rotary Extreme one when I saw that it's no longer available. The only one I've seen in person was at shop in Largo. I don't know who made it but the gaps were large and it was wavy, it was painted red so it may fiberglass.

I know two types I can get new. No matter what I get it will painted with car at some point but until then I will leave CF.

Seibon & VIS how do they compare. Can near stock gaps be achieved?

Also how risky is it to run these without hood pins under 100mph?

This question has been asked before. I would definately choose the Seibon and, hood pins well recommended.

You are going to need hood pins. My scoot hood started to lift at about 95 mph. I installed the flush carbon locking hood pins. The locks match the hood and they don't stand out as much as the regular pins. Plus you get the added security with the locking hood pins. Only draw back is the install. Takes a little time and patience to get them to sit nice.

I like this hood, except for the large louvers. Anyone know if there's a hood like this with smaller louvers?

Here are pics of my car with VIS CF scoot hood painted.

Fitments are great! I also had RE FG scoot hood. Both are pretty good. The VIS version is missing the center air channel.

If you plan to speed with the rain guard in, I recommend putting the hood pins.
BUT I've taken both hoods excessive of 140MPH and no ill affect (this topic was discussed awhile back).

Chuck's scoot, I've taken upto 160MPH. VIS only 140ish but I don't see any problem beyond that.

I've had rain guard on the VIS and it started to lift around 85MPH... I've taken it upto 110 with the rain guard... it was little scary, but it was ok.

With the rain guard, the pressure under tha hood can't escape and the hood will start to lift. Hence no lift without the rain guard..

May sound ricey but you get the Real carbon hood pins at Pep Boys. Its actually a layer of carbon that sticks to the metal plate. I had originally installed the plastic deflectors that go on top of the head lights and the hood actually seemed more unstable so I removed them.

Can you post some bigger/closer pics. Looks like they all sit a little high at the bumper.

Also any feedback on the fit of the Seibon there are more dealer for those. I have only seen one for the VIS and it wasn't an "authorised" dealer. Also are the silver grills part of the rain guard on those hoods?

As for the tunnel I done some fiber glass work and pretty sure that I could fab one to direct air to UIM, duplicating RE work would be harder. Really wish I could pull off a cold air intake for it...

Based on feedback from Chuck from RE I can't see using the rain guards and doubt they would fit with the piping form the FMIC anyway.

Yep. your correct. I need to take the latch and make the holes little bigger so that I could lower it a bit.

That's still one good looking FD.

Well after receiving feedback today from number of dealer sources combined with your own I purchase the VIS version of the hood. Price and reputation factored in as well. Also the VIS looked to be closer to form to the original.

Thanks again to everyone for your help in this purchase.

fitment may be great, but i've heard that any replicas of the scoot hood are actually not functional and don't create air flow as they are designed to. someone feel free to correct me on this, but i'm just putting it out there in case you weren't aware of its non-aesthetic properties.

Just an FYI - hood pins are a good idea with an aftermarket hood, but they are NOT replacements for the stock hood latch - they should be used in addition to. EVERY ONE I've known who has installed hood pins and removed the stock latch has forgotten to reinstall the hood pins or thought their buddy had put it on - drive down the road, and the hood flies up. Best case, you do some major damage to the car - broken window, messed up roof, not to mention messed up hood and hood hinges. Worst case, it flies up, you can't see, you hit someone.

BTW, Herblenny, your car with the Scoot hood is amazing lookin' .

This is perhaps true, however it will help keep my temps down in heavy traffic. I have confirmed this with numerous scoot owners. Once it's painted I would do it just for that reason alone and the fact that IMHO its far sexier than the stock hood.

I also think that the Rotary Extreme version was fully functional. If I get really board may try to replicate the center channel duct work. As I stated my intention is not to run hood pins or rain guards. Hood pin would ruin the look I'm after. This car is a toy daily drive that's quick not a track car. Its days of going to 150 are probably over as long I own it.
