Saving an fd from an ls1! opinions needed

Well i just recently aquired an fd that was in the process of an ls1 conversion. It already has the subframe installed and what not.

Being that im rotary guy I dont think i can bring myself to let this car go ls1. so im trying to bring it back to the rotary.

I dont have any drivetrain on the car at all . So ill be needing to get a complete swap.

Im thinking of ordering a motor swap from " Japan2la" since they seem to have a good rep for motors.

Id like your opinions on taking the path of a jdm swap. Im figuring it would be my best bet since the car needs everything to go back to running condition .

Depending on how big of a project you're looking for, since the car already is motorless, subframeless, eculess and wiring harnessless, I'd try to build the worlds first 16bit S6 FD. Since the 16bit(96-02) engines were considerably more durable than the 8bit(92-95) FDs and had better lubrication and knock detection, not to mention a vastly superior ECU.

i wish on the 20b .. I plan on just a simple 13b swap in . Then progress from there.

Any takes on the whole motorswap from a jdm rep. Is it a good idea considering I dont have all the stuff.

Honestly, I don't see why you'd buy 15 year JDM parts over of 15 year old USDM parts. Since you have the car all apart, you really should buy new. Buy a reman, get it rebuild at Pettit, buy a new wiring harness and a Pettit ECU and call it a day. You'll have a rock solid car and it'll be cheaper in the long run than buying a JDM front clip (which will probably need a housing, a rebuild and a wiring harness at the minimun anyway).

congrats on the save. Me and a friend of mine just saved one too. Lucky for him though i have had my FD awhile (5yrs) and have changed set-ups several times so i have 90% of the parts to get his back going!

Good man! Saving a unicorn. I like the s6 conversion idea. That would be pretty sweet. That or an na 20b with itb's. That would be great too. Na would mean no worrys for apex seals too. Not to mention crazy sounds. Haved fun. Just dont put a non rotary engine in it.

Well I wouldn't say an fd needs to be "saved" from an LS1 conversion, but its up to the individual's preference. The ls1 is superior in many ways and a 3 rotor conversion is very expensive to do correctly. Most people don't just have 20 grand laying around to do it right. So if you don't have the funds or desire to do it correctly, I would recommend finishing the LS1 swap or going back to the 2 rotor. You could probably sell off the conversion parts and make some money back to fund a nicely built 13b. Personally I would never buy a used rotary engine of unknown condition unless the mileage, history, and compression numbers can be documented.

I assume you bought the car from leo? Anyways, I'm about an hour and a half from Spring Hill, and would be interested in buying some of the swap kit items off of that car, as a matter of fact. If you decide to sell them, PM me. Thanks!

Now the car's destined to not be roadworthy 50% of it's remaining lifespan.

-i'm partially kidding-

To be honest, the LS1 would make a FAR better daily driver, commuter, etc(beyond it's performance advantages and reliability). Especially with gas prices hitting 5.00 a gallon for premium with no sign of letting up. You'll get 30+mpg on the freeway and 15-20 around town with average driving.

30+ mpg with a V8 might be a bit of a stetch, either way its prob. better than a 13b.

I saw go with a 20b

30 isn't really a stretch, ls1 fbodys get 28 on the highway. Subtract a lot of weight and 30 is obtainable. My supercharged mustang got 26 on the highway tuned rich. V8's in lighter cars dont get bad gas mileage, its when you put them into 2 ton suv's.

Ive got a full longblock with fresh rebuild, new injectors, fresh resurfaced flywheel, ACT Clutch and Transmission, turbos, wiring harness etc, everything you need to drop in and I have a fd front subframe that we could work a trade for the hinson subframe.

Let me know if you are interested. The motor only has 150 miles on it and comes with a 6 month/ 6k mile limited warranty.
