Don't feed the trolls. Glad you're okay, but you were foolish for doing this. I doubt insurance is going to help you out very much. Good luck in whatever path you choose for the car.

I have the appraisal from speed for sale.com from when i purchased my FD. mine is heavily modified, but it also has a comparison to 3 other FD's, i could email that to you if it will help. I don't think any one of them was going for under $17k, and they gave mine a fair market value of $22k, and a price to replace of $38k (not that the later number means much to an insurance company) but it may be something good to show them.

Your stil alive.. Live and learn. I was in ICU for 3 days and the hospital for almost a month when I wrecked my FD 6 years ago going 70 in a 70. Nothing stupid. I lost traction in the rain on the highway from edging off the road to miss a piece of debris. I also had a bunch of power on stock sized rims. I would never drive an Fd w/ stock rubber over 300 whp. My current one has 17 by 8 and 9 1/2 and wow what a difference in control. Youll get back on your feet and do it again. Good luck w/ your new project as I had fun doing it again. Just glad your ok. G

Good luck with the rebuild! I had my FD sitting around for a few years in a driveway (much worse condition than yours). Thought about selling it until a buddy restoring his 911 turbo convinced me to restore it. Lots of labor and money but it's one of the best decisions I've made!

The most important thing is that you are ok. Metal and plastic can all be replaced.

YEAH the same thing i was saying. It looks only a couple of dents into the car itself so theres nothing wrong except the bodykit fell off!

so i know for sure you drove it home (limping) but drove it home!

IMO with all the work and the talk about your car i woudnt sell it. just my .02 cents

p.s. full coverage? and dont worry what they say. a guy here with nittos wrecked his fd in the rain as well, it happens to the best of us

edit: i just noticed the strut bar is bent. so i might be a little worse condition than i thought!

would you feel better if i gave you a diff brace lol

azcamel,

Sorry about your car man... That really sucks but on the upside at least you are not hurt.

Like other have said damage looks to be only cosmetic. Worst case scenario the insurance pays you off, you buy the car back and get it back on the road. If you are interested I know this body shop in Mexico that does excellent work for 1/4 of the U.S. prices.

My car was hit 3 times in one year while being parked at different locations (yeah I know what luck) since I had a $500 deductible I opted for the cash so I could fix it in Mexico. I ended up fixing the dents, with a complete change in paint color, added sideskits, took off a wing. For the paint job I had them remove the trunk stuff and my windows too, door panels. And oh yeah on top of using 5 year dupont paint I had them put on 1 1/2 gallon of clear. I was only $200 over from what the insurance gave me IIRC.

Now my car is insured for an additional $17K in mods on top of fair market price

So sorry to see this... i think you are getting good info with the few pics of the damage supplied. The driver side fender suppourt as you know is tottally jacked but other than that if you looked at the fame it may be ok... good luck with whatever decision you make.

Matt,
Yeah man i know you would be just as bummed as me, freaking suck, sorry for messing up the masterpiece.

Glenn,
Ill call you tomorrow over the stuff we talked about, or please give me a call when you get some time.

Thanks guys, if i rebuild it then i would need to get a roller car and swap everything over.. this all depends on what insurance gives me and if i find someone to buy the engine, turbo, drivetrain, etc... all the major parts.

Tony, this sucks. I just went through something similar, only twasn't my fault. Not meaning to pile on

In any case my "close to stock" totaled 94 base with 103K miles on it was worth 17K to me from my IC. (Value of car was 15.8K, Taxes title and license ~1.2K)

sad indeeded. Sorry for the loss, time to look for a roller.

does a gt42r actually have that instant of response ? I thought that would have the big turbo lag to go along with the big turbo power ?

3, you have know idea what i've driven owned and have in the pass. I have done track and amature race events on my motorcycle, that requiers more control then cars in most cases, and thrttole control? yeah lets see how well you control it when you get slammed into the gas pedal.
4, your a dick and probably dont have and FD or if you do you have no idea how to work on it anyways....End..
Tony

while I can sympathize with the loss of your car, and while helloworld;8799595 might be a bit of an *** with the way he worded his reply. Normally when you punch the throttle and boost kicks in you would slide to the rear of the seat which in turn would lift your foot off of the throttle..... not plant it there for any length of time.

he fundamentally was correct in a roundabout fashion when he insinuated that something just does not quite sound right in the explanation.....

Not making any comments on ability or lack there of, or the lack of forthought when you decided to pass in those conditions but the story just seems intersting at best.... now If I have misread something or if you feel their is a possibility that you might have miss-worded your explanation I would be interested in the cliff notes just to help other avoid the same fate

Guys enough. He knows he made a mistake. He already said so:

"thanks guys.. yes im a dumbass for messing up the car.. moving on and dealing with insurance.."

Let's stop reminding him of it. Please read the WHOLE thread before adding comments.

So sorry man, fwiw. It's just gut-wrenching to see those pics. A good lesson learned a terrible way; hopefully, the experience expressed here does not fall on deaf ears...

Matt

Didn't realize that he was not the creator.... Oh man you *just* sold it 6 months ago and sure enough new owner crashes it. Seems that it's actually a very common thing to do. Not sure why that is.

Now IMO you deserve my condolences more, that was your blood and sweat that went into that baby. Sorry Matt

Why is he jumping someone's **** about "not knowing how to work on an FD" when he went out and wrecked a pre-modified one?

Just a touch of irony. The error was blatantly caused by inexperience.
