Stupid question but is there a way to access the ign wiring WITHOUT removing the gauge cluster hood??

I been pondering on doing the s2k button install myself.

yes, but you would still need to remove the hood to mount the button where the cig lighter is.

True.

But the reason why i ask is because i already disassembled my cig lighter to see the task at hand and i already have it off lol

If there is a way to snake the tap wiring under and through the cig lighter, that means im home free no?

Mounting the actual button wont be hard, i have done things the hard way before.

But is that the only reason why the hood needs to be removed?

it's really not that hard, we just did it on my roommate's truck since the key tumbler in his steering wheel decided to shell itself.

As an S2000 owner, I don't get the hoopla over a push button start. It's a gimmick.

Agreed... what's the point?.. Really.... I'd rather spend the time and energy cleaning my engine bay & polishing parts.

And to the jealous S2k owner, Jaguar was doing it in the 70's... nothing new folks.

True. My uncle did it to his TR7 way back in the early 80's.

But... it was cool then and it still is. It is a feature on most high end cars and is making its way down to more mundane transport.

I haven't bothered to do it myself, but I can see why other people do.

I prefer a standard key start. I don't like gimmicks for the sake of gimmickry.

read my above post, i soldered directly to the s2000 push button switch

1) get a relay and wire it to the battery, mount the relay inside the engine bay next to the leading coil
2) wire your ground to the relay and run the wire inside where the cig lighter goes
3) wire the +12v from the green plug by the leading coil, middle pin (check with voltmeter)
4) hook your switch to the ground wire and the other end wire it to ground
5) from the relay, wire the +12 to the starter

all done, i just woke up so im sure it doesnt make sense, im still sleepy

we removed his cig lighter and placed the switch there, you have to "bore" out the hole a little. we used a dremel with a sand wheel so it was a really tight fit. ill try to snap some pics, the car is here at my house
