RX8 to RX7 ABS sensor/calibration

The RX8 uses a different style front hub assembly from the RX7, and it looks like the ABS sensor is configured differently in that on the RX7 you bolt the sensor to the upright and there are gear-like teeth on the back of the hub, whereas on the RX8 it seems to be self-contained in the hub, and you just plug into the back of it.

QUESTION: How ridiculously impossible would it be to adapt a plug to an RX8 hub to the RX7 ABS system? Is it the same sort of signal?

And yes, there is a top-secret feindish plot involved.

I know RX-8 ABS has been added to an RX-7. Not sure if it included a hub swap.

I remember reading the early (S1) NON-DSC ABS is the way to go. Not sure if that's the one's you're referencing.

I'm semi-astonished that Dale Clark hasn't already figured this whole thing out.

Haha, haven't had a need to . This is going to be one of those "get the parts and compare and figure it out" projects.

Hey, I bought a used RX-8 AC system to see if any parts could be used on an FD .

Yes Dale, your next project should be how to upgrade the FD MANA system, or find a better compressor that can be used with it.

Better A/C... Better Brakes... Better A/C... Better Brakes.

Guys, if this is our discussion, I have some bad news. I think we're getting old.

I want it noted for the record that this has nothing to do with better brakes, and I'm still rocking the GReddy Ti and no A/C.

I've only found some of the info I would want to check, but it looks like the type of wheel speed sensor on the RX-8 is similar to the type of wheel speed sensor on the RX-7. The docs I'm finding show that both are 2-wire Variable Reluctance sensors and will output a sinusoidal waveform. The next piece of the puzzle is finding how many teeth will be present on the trigger wheels, for instance if the RX-7's ABS system is expecting 50* teeth per wheel revolution it would need to see that exact same number of teeth per wheel revolution from the RX-8 hub.

* 50 is a guess, not sure it's actually looking for 50. I'll keep digging.

If the photo for this hub is accurate, it looks like there are 44 teeth per wheel revolution.
https://www.autopartswarehouse.com/s.../TM512118.html

If you have the RX-8 hub, it may be possible to remove the sensor, mark teeth with a paint pen, and slowly spin the hub to count how many teeth are on the wheel.

Thank you, now we are getting someplace!

I don't have an RX8 hub, but I can acquire one fairly easily... and No, I don't want (at least right now) to use RX8 ABS. I want to use an RX8 hub, with RX7 ABS.

A little bit of research suggests that it is also 44 teeth. I think I'll get ahold of a hub to confirm. It may be a matter of simply splicing the connector plug onto the FD wiring.

Tooth count is not critical unless the ABS has speed sensitive functions.
It is just comparing inputs from different wheels to determine when to modulate pressure.

Right, but I'm only looking to use the fronts so I'm assuming you want them to generate the same signal as the rears or it will decide they are turning at different speeds and modulate incorrectly.

Has anyone made any progress of getting a Non-DSC RX8 ABS system to work in a RX7?

I heard some of the pro Miata race cars are using this system as well.
