RX7store downpipe. Compared to M2?

How is the downpipe sold by RX7store compared to the M2 one? Its 45 dollar cheaper. I would get that if its pretty much the same thing. Anyone have the RX7store one?
Thanks!

What I've heard is that basically a pipe is a pipe. It doesn't matter what the brand is as long as it's stainless steel. I was considering several different brands before I found my petit used. You could try looking for a used one in the for sale section, it can save you a little cash. Besides, I've heard a lot of people recomend jet hot coating. In that case I don't think one pipe would be any different from another besides material.

two differences

1. M2 bolts on without the stud
2. Will take two weeks instead of two days.

The M2 is polished. Both are nice DP's. I have both in stock.

most stainless steel downpipes are the same. it doesnt really make a difference to which one you go with.

So does the RX7store dp have the problem with the studs? Or is it like the M2 in that respect?

Go with the cheapest Downpipe you can find. No one will see it under the car. If you have to get emissions inspections, go with the dull one, that way it looks like it belongs there.

Yeah, I don't care what it looks like. I just want it to be stainless steel and to fit well. I don't feel like turning my knuckles into a butcher's window while installing the thing. Thus, I want to know if the RX7Store installs as easy as the M2, i.e., without the stud issues that the Pettit seems to have. Thanks for any help.

I had no problems with my pettit. I used all of the hardware they supplied. The allen wrench bolt goes on the bottom left. You have to cut the allen wrench in order for it to fit. Before you start soak everything in PB Blaster real good. PB Blaster is the ****!

But lots of people *have* had problems with the Pettit when the studs have been stuck. With my luck, I'll be one of those, even with the PB Blaster. I just need to know if the RX7Store lets you keep the studs the way the M2 does. (With the Pettit, you have to remove the studs, right?).

Well, the thing with the studs is that when you start to take the bolts off some of the studs will come out with the bolts. Some studs always seemed to come out with the bolts. In that case its nice to have new studs supplied by Pettit.

Also, the last time I was able to install my Pettit dp with all 4 studs in place.

Anyway, its probably not going to be that big a deal either way.

Interesting. From some of the posts I've seen on here over the last few months, you'd think installing a dp was a big deal. I guess I just scare easy. **** it, I'll go with the RX7Store and take my chances. But if I have big problems with the studs I'm blaming it on your advice .

You wont have any problems with our DP. It will go on with the studs, but the odds are when you take the bolts off the studs will back themselves out.

The trick is to not snap any of the studs when removing the pre cat. Thats when you get into a pita. Just take your time, use the PB Blaster stuff and DONT put your weight into it. You can apply pressure just dont try and force it to do something its not wanting to do and you'll be fine. Jack you car up nice and high so you'll have pleanty of room to move the dp around.

Good Luck!!!!

I hate to have to say this, but I have seen the Store's pipe firsthand and have to say I wouldn't buy it. The studs or bolts only fit into 2 of the holes, I had to drill out the other 2. Now that it's installed there is only about an 1/8" between the DP and the frame rail. I'm pretty sure this will rub under load. I personally have the old Rx7 fashion DP, fitment was alot better. Just my opinion, flame all you want.

Regards,
Frank

PS, sorry Jason, but the pipe (MP too) look like they're made by a high school freshman in his first year of metal shop. (but there just pipes, so I guess it doesn't matter)

I just installed one of our downpipes today with no problems. The MP is a straight piece of metal. I have had 1 midpipe not fit correctly out of many sold.

If someone has a hard time installing one of our downpipes I have no problem taking it back and sending a M2 or Pettit.

I agree with Flyrx7, given the chance again I would get the M2 (if in stock). I had to cut and reposition the flange at the bottom to get it to align properly, redrill all the holes to get them to lineup, grind the welds at the top flange to allow the nuts to seat properly, and clearance the pipe where it hit the rear turbo housing. I do and will continue to buy parts thru Jason but it's not worth saving $40.00. Get the M2. Jeff

Frank,
I would say you got a bad downpipe if only 2 of the studs would fit. Everyonce in a while we get one that has problems, but overall we have very few complaints. I have no problems sending out a new one if there is an issue.
