Mojo619,

Like stated earlier, all FDs are twin-turbo charged from the factory. You will find some that have been modified to a single-turbo setup, and yes, there is at least one person that has taken his turbos out to have a normally aspirated FD (couldn't find the thread).

As far as reliability, some have wisely stated that you can do the reliability mods, stay off of the accelerator, and hope for the best. It can be done, as I used to daily drive my FD for a few years, but it is now a weekend car for me.

Check out the FAQ link here. It is a "sticky" located at the top of this forum.
https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/faq-3rd-gen-other-useful-links-68640/

Most of the questions you will have have already been addressed in some way, shape, or form. Use the "search" function at the top right of the page to look for things. That will save you the flaming that you will receive from all of these "holier than thou" FD owners...

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your searches.
I think you missed the point: he was looking for a non-turbocharged version of the FD because he's too young to drive a performance car legally.

I would recommend buying a fun NA car for awhile. To step into a FD at a young age is not wise, and apparently in your case, illegal. There are many young people that dream of FD's for a good reason, but you need realize that FD's not only require alot of maintenance but it is often said that "buying an FD is the cheap part".

Your in Austrailia, there are lots of fun fast four's running around!

unfortunately i dont know anyone whos specialized in rotary engines so im scared to touch the engine..
a mate of mine at chasers say their 7 customers come in every 10-30k for a rebuild
oh and insurance is gonna kill ya
i'm 21 and its 2.6k, with a 2.6k excess lol so 5.2k if i get into an accident..

i'd also suggest a 32 for now, im drivin around a 32gtr and ive never been busted for it, dont know about sydney but they dont check your lisense here when u go for a breath test and just take your p plates off. thats what i do

No, it's not, but with a bit of fixing up it can be. Try an older RX-7 if you want an NA, and then be careful just b/c it's old. Or if you're after the 3rd gen's good looks you could just hunt for another good looking car. Or if you have the cash and can do the research, I hear you can make the 3rd gen reliable. Try this site: http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/pr...zda/index.html. Besides performance upgrades, they also cover all the reliability items. 'Course this is all book knowledge for me.

Mate the cops in oz are almost as certain as death and taxes. i had been in my mums wrx v9 all but 7 mins before i was pulled up on my holiday to brisbane. In the end the choice is up to you what you want to do. All cars cost money to run. some more than others. you take the good with the bad. haha probably doesnt make things easier for you but yeah...

Well, reliability mods aside, the more you mod it and faster you go, the more unreliable it becomes.

However, with all reliability mods (and not an insane amount of power adders), it should be fairly reliable. It'll also depend on how the previous owner took care of it. Just don't neglect fluid changes, always run 93+ octane, etc.
