RX7 Questions?? Looking into buying one help!

Im in the car market and i love the look and performance potential of the RX7

Ok im not going to beat around the bush but ive been told by very reliable sources is that the RX7's motor basically sucks *** and loves to blow APEX Seals. Now with moderate to heavy performance mods how often will i run into trouble. This car reliable?? what are some of your comments about it? you like? what are the good things? Bad? any comments or suggestions are apprieciated.

P.S What you pimps think about the 20b?? Will it drop into a 3G??

Troy Michigan eh, I am from Rochester Hills. Honestly the best place to start would be reading the links provided in the stickied thread posted at the top of this section. It will answer a lot of the questions you have. Secondly, simply sit back and read a bunch of the posts created on here. And finally, use the search function provided by the forum, search under the 3rd gen section and just type in the word reliability. A ton of good info should come up. By doing those, you'll get more information than if I were just to type all I know relating to the subjects.

shoot me a PM if your really interested in an FD.

Your questions get asked every other day and its tiresome to see for the regulars. This sticky is on up on the front page for the noobs and its obvious you missed it, however I'll be nice enough to provide the link:

The reason I acted like I did, is because you are abviously about 17 years old, and you had no idea about the motor in the FD. You're probably what I like to call an FnFer. What do you expect when you come into a forum and say the "motor basically sucks ***", and ask if a 20b can be dropped into a 3G? Really man.

Sorry for the personal attack. I'm tired of children (yes, I'm young too, but hardly a child).

Concidering GM tested with the, and decided not to go rotary because of the little relibality for any type of extended use. Damn yo thats **** deep. Im just wondering for some first hand experience. To be honest this whole FD is a foriegn world to me. I am an expert in my own car, ask me i will know, there was a time when you didnt even know what a RX7 was!!

It all depends... just like in a regular car, has it been raced !? Has it been babied... ?
Typically you can expect 100K out of an average Motor on a 3'rd gen... (Turbo Reduces Engine Life on any motor) 2'nd gen NA's run 150-200K per engine...
After that it's all about how many mods, and how much boost... more boost = more stress = engine failure...

Mot people here don't own RX-7's for their reliability, they usually own them for one of 3 Reasons, most do as I do as well, for all 3

1) Wankel Motors are Unique (Rare on the road)
2) 3'rd Gen Body Looks Phenominal 10 Years after it's induction.
3) The power and weight ratio Front to Rear (Handling) and the Power / to / Weight ratio is Amazing...

the reason why people hate RX-7's...
1) Engine failure is a matter of time.. usually less time than piston equivilants
2) Due to it's rare nature reliable mechanics are hard to find.
3) it's a money pit in disguise (Or Not in Disguise, depending on your POV)
