RX-7 vs WRX ?

I have been looking for the testing info for these 2 cars. I cant find a sight that has the old stock test like road and track do to the new cars. I want to see how these 2 compare by the stock numbers. Can anyone help me with this info or tell me where to look ? I dont think anyone has run these 2 cars head to head to any info will help.

At the track a stock wrx runs average of 14.4-14.6 @92? mph. Reason it hit that time is because of the AWD. Stock Rx7 can hit has low as 13.5@106 mph like my friend did on his stock R1. I only hit 13.9@101 with a catback.

I had a rolling start on 3rd gear with my friend's WRX, both stock. I know it's not a good test, but by the end of 3rd gear, I pulled 2.5-3 car lengths off him.

My brother has a wrx and he put the following:
M2 turbo back exhaust
Turbo XS computer
Greddy profec-b and etc...
I say the car pulls very nice and the sound of it is very aggressive but we haven't race yet because my car is not done. We raced once when my car and his car were still stock. We raced from standing start, on third beep we're off, he jumped about 1 car and when I reached to 3rd gear that's when I catch up and start to pull away. Later.

That AWD makes for very little in the way of wheel spin, which means generally good launches. The drawback is that it's a heavier ride and it takes more juice to get it going.

I saw that video also. It's on this forum somewhere. The rx-7 annahilates them from mid 2nd gear on. The Wrx has a mad launch though and takes both of them off the line. I gotta say the launch is all good but comes 2nd and 3rd gear your car better have some boot to beat a bpu rx-7. A buddy has a WRX and took me for a ride in it, launches hell a nice but by 3rd gear it feels sluggish. When i had my Eclipse GS-T , i ran him from a dead stop, he took me off the line but by top of 2nd i caught up and put a car on him in third. So it's quik for what it is.

The question is how does it stand up to the Honda Civic EX?

Hmmm. That's a hard one, should be more like the civic cx (92) HP! Then you'll really give the rex a good run for his money (LOL). I use to have a civic dx, sedan at that w/bolt-ons and nice drop with rims. My very first car when i was 19 in the military. Took me a long time before i got my 93 Rx-7 and 95 Eclipse GS-T. Sold my DSM and got the wife a 98 Honda Accord V6. Can't complain though Honda's do make really reliable cars. I beat the hell out of DX with 140,000 miles and it still ran good. Then sold it for $7,000.00 believe that.

Almost bought the WRX

But not enough HP and it priced at $32k for the options I wanted. I loved the way it stuck in the turns! Not as quiet or classy as the Audi S4 but it's 10-20k less.

Try asking M2 Performance about the comaparison, since they modify both.

My brother has the M2 performance turbo back exhaust, Turbo XS ecu, and Profec-B boost controller set at 16 lbs. on his WRX. The car pulls hard from start and through each and every gear. I'm happy on how the car performs and the sound of it at WOT. The boxer engine layout makes the engine sounds like a helicopter at idle. Cool 5 passenger 4wd car.

You must have wanted those insanely expensive BBS's that came as an option, eh?

I snagged mine for around $27K. It'll be a year I've owned it in about three weeks. Very, very fun stuff. As stated, not quite as quick as a 7, but still a great car...and my best daily driver ever.

All I gotta do is get some new tires on the thing and it'll stick even better.

Terribly fun autoxer also.

I AGREE!

My friend has the same set up, I have alot of respect for the car. You ppl need to remember this is a $25k 4dr vehicle vs our (at the time) $35-40k sportscar. The performance is not gonna be the same but for a 4 dr its pretty damn hot anyway!

How are you people spending so much on the WRX????

I got my WRX for $25,575 with alot of options:
Upgraded Stereo /w sub
Upgraded Security
Spoiler
Gauge pack ($600 option, don't get it)
Hepa Filter
100K 5 year bumper to bumper waranty.

And this was a year ago, when almost everywhere would not make a deal. I went to 3 dealer ships and this was about average!!!!!

Now, no to the performance side.

The WRX has hit 11s with the stock turbo, mid to low 12s is very common. This is because the AWD though, from a roll a 12 sec RX-7 would take a 12 sec WRX..

Anyways, they are both great cars with a different purpose, but i would be carefull who you race, you might not like the outcome.

No, RX-7Action

That is not true... You just can't drop the clutch at 6K.. I know people with over 300WHP that have well over 100 1/4 mile passes.. you just need to slip the clutch.

Not saying the trannys don't have problems, but try finding an FD with out bad 5th gear syncros

It is all relitive to how you drive the car..

I just happen to have an RX-7 and a WRX. Keep in mind that the RX-7 is for open tracking and the WRX is my daily driver. The RX-7 has no real engine mods. I did suspension, brakes, roll bar, oil coolers, radiator, ast, and front strut tower bar (touring model). Oh yeah and racing compound tires. I can say that on a racetrack even in stock form (I have done that) the RX-7 is easily the most fun. It was made to do that in my opinion. The WRX is better suited to off road rally style driving. Not from experience but everything I have read says so. Plus I have talked to some guys that have tracked their WRXs. You would have to do a lot of suspension mods to make it close to the RX-7. Even if I did the same mods as the RX-7 has, it still wouldn’t be as good for the track. The WRX is a neat car and I enjoy driving it but I will probably never take it to the track. As far as drag racing goes I know nothing. Oh yeah all I got was the rear spoiler and the boost gauge and it was $23,967. What the heck are you wanting that makes it $32K?

Yep ralgh, you are completely correct..

The WRX comes with very high ride height, crappy tires, and soft suspension. It wouldn't be very good on the track. the RX-7 STOCK handles turns much better..
.

From my understanding Subaru set the car up in the middle of the road. So it sucks at street and off road.. but either can be corrected..

It actually does fairly well off road.
