Question Rx-7 For A NuBi, need help.

Hello people. I'm going to be able to buy an rx-7 soon. and would need the experts on rx-7 to help me out here. I'm planning to get a 3rd gen. rx-7 and gonna mod all the required with a 3 rotor engine. I've been wondering if i could even fit the 3 rotor engine in there. If i cant without doing anething else to the car can people give me advice on how to add a 3 rotor engine in?

Also if people can suggest nice rotor specialist/body shops and cheap labor within California.
And if people know anywhere i can find an rx-7 3rd gen without a motor for cheap.

woops ... sorry but if people can write their mods for their rx-7.

Thanks

how much money do you have? have you searched around on the forum yet? unless if you have about 50 grand, don't count on 'adding' a 3-rotor. unless if you plan on doing it yourself.

look on ebay, autotrader, parts trader, those kinds of places for 3rd gens. and seeing as how you're in california you could probably find one in the paper.

good luck

well a 3 rotor is really expensive. but if you have time and patience. and alot of money you can do it. i cannot refer you to a shop becuase i dont live in cali. but anyways good luck. also remember to do as much reading about the rx7 as you can. the more you know the better your car will be. remember the car is at least 8 years old know so you will have to fix some things that are bad just from being old.

3 rotor cost about 2-4k in japan but by the time it gets here, its more like 8-10k. I don't think anyone has made a bolt in kit for this application as of yet for a 3rd gen. perhaps you should get a second gen and try swapping it in to there since there are ready made kits for those. Also note that it is not hard to get one started in a FC but to get it tuned so that it will be putting out over 400-600hp is gonna cost you. The manual tranny swap is also gonna cost you a pretty penny. Just stick with a 2 rotor and slap on a large single and you should be going pretty fast.

Good luck

P.S. 50k sounds just about right for a 3rotor conversion.

When I first got my FD six years ago I saw the Pettit 3 rotor on their video(yes, I bought it-what a dumbass).

I wanted to just drop in a three-rotor too...

All I can say is good luck! But if you have enough cash, anything is possible...There was an FD 3-rotor on ebay a while back going for 40-50k...

so the conversion will be about 35k?
is that including the engine? or just the conversion?

cuz damn!! thats alot for just a conversion.

I would just do it myself if it was that much. the engine is only 7 inches longer than the 13b so it shouldnt be that dificult rite?

This has been talked about many times you could probably do it in a FD for about 30k-40k. Last I heard www.pettitracing.com wanted 36k+. And I know Bermuda20B had www.kdrotary.com do his and I think he said he lost track of how much he spent around 25k. Which means his was probably well into the 30's, and that's not including the price of the car and that's working with stock turbos.

Search and you'll find more on this subject. Also there is a 20B section.

For the longest time the "I'm going to put a 20B in it" threads stopped and now they seem to have started back up again.

I suggest before you start this project make sure there is no other car you would want for 40k-50k. The 20B swap definately isn't a Honda swap, and takes lots of time and money to do right. Even if you were to do it being new to FD's could you handle the power without wrecking it?

You have to be a die hard rotary fan to want to drop the ching for a conversion, or very rich. Sorry, but if I'm going to spend at least $50K on a car total (I'm assuming you'll want to modify other aspects of the car), I would just assume get a nice new M3 SMG.

I Have chosen to do the conversion in my corvair because of its relativly low cost and simplicity.
I know you must be saying simple this kids a moron. I know how complex the swap is from the many examples on this forum. The swap will be easier because of a number of factors.

1) there is already a kit to mate a 350 or higher c.i. engine to its trans axle and I could fab a adapter for it.
2) I have more space to work in (the engine is where the back seat was)
3)I don't need to change the tans (the trans axle was a powerglide with a posi-trac rear end. it can take about 650Hp)
4) I don't have to worry about moving the trans back or messing with the fire wall.

Although it is far from the perect swap. I
these are the problems I see and I am sure i will find more when i do it.

1)cooling a 20B has been metioned as difficult, now try that in a car that was air cooled to start with.
2)how to deal with a constant 110db of pure roar from behind my right ear.
3)How to hook up a stand alone ECU in a car that is all analog (pre rx-7 owners can relate)
4)I'll have to fab alot of parts incluing the motor mounts, the cooling system, the oil lines, fuel lines, exhaust, and wireing.

Thats not all but this is as long as I want to make this post. You can fit any engine into any car if you have the money.
How you do it is your own way. But its far more complex than ploping a 20B in your car.

well if your engine is in your back seat how the heck are you getting your rear end to work? did you make holes in the side to your gas tank? or is the piping all in the engine bay but your engine in your back seat?
