Rx-7 no drivetrain, whats good
hey all, i have a friend who is trying to sell me an Rx-7 with no drivetrain in it, i am just wondering what some good options are for alternative motor selections since i am quite sure that a stock engine would be nearly impossible to come by. Any suggestion is a good one as long as it's not dumb, another friend of mine claimed that you can fit a chevy 350 under the hood but i am pretty skeptical, anyone who has experience or might be able to help me out with this please post a reply and let me know what u think

It's not the cost of the V-8 and transmission, it's the cost of the installation....
You can get a rebuilt rotary engine w/o a core for about $3000. A new set of Turbos will be $3000+ for new or much less for used (iffy proposition). But the cost of all of the other components necessary -- manifolds, rats nest, etc will also be very high. I believe a new tranny is about $3k from Mazda. You can find engines and trannies for sale, though not very regularly.
All that being said, doing the LS-1 conversion from www.hinsonsupercars.com might end up being about the same cost unless you do well in finding some used parts here on the forum or elsewhere. I don't personally care for doing an LS-1 conversion but it might be a lot simpler and be just as cost effective for you.
