DAMNIT!

Alright, so I won this Rx-7 on ebay the other day.

It's a 1993 with like 60k miles on it, but perfect condition. With work from pettit racing too - about 315 to 330 horse power.

After the auciton ended, he emailed me and said that $17,500 still wasn't enough - even though I met his reserve. So he wasnt going to sell it to me.

Then I get an email from the guy today, and he wrecked it yesterday. Rolled it several times and landed upside-down in a ditch. Everyone was alright - just bumps and brusises, but the car is totaled. Here's a photo:


Guess he should have sold it after all...

 

Geez that guy's an idiot. He had to know that he was obligated to sell the car to you at your winning bid.

Yah i know. I read that you can end an auction early if you are going to sell the item locally, but as soon as an auction ends you are obligated to sell it to the winning bidder.

But I couldn't do anything about it, so I just figured i would find a different one.

 

Wow, that really sucks. You should have given the ******* a bad rating. He was probably thinking, "Hey! Now that it's no longer my responsibility, I can finally abuse this car."

 

One last joy ride gone wrong...Can you actually confirm thats the same car? Maybe hes just trying to get out of the sale.

I bet that's a pic of a different FD that crashed. I think he did this so you wouldn't force him to sell it to you. I bet it's still in his driveway or garage, unscathed.

 

I agree. This is another car. On ebay did he post the VIN? I would have him send you a picture of the crashed car's vin.

Isn't a sale through Ebay a contract? If the VIN does not match I say sue him.

I'm not sure, but from the crash pic, it looks like a texas car. Was it a Texas car you bid on?

You really aren't going to want to deal with this guy anyway. It is clear he is a jerk. You may just want to make his life miserable by filing a fraud report with eBay.

 

If you look at the auction posted by joe flo on the over forum it is the same car. Man I would let this guy get away with pulling that **** talk to a lawyer see what they think they could do or at least tell ebay about the seller backing out after the auction has ended.

 

Now this guy is obviously a liar and a scam artist, but I'm sure he has his good qualities...like being the biggest jerk he can! File a report with Ebay so the next time this putz has an auction he doesn't screw someone else out of what they rightfully bid for and won. An auction is a binding contract. If you are not man enough to sell something for the reserve you list, then don't put it on Ebay. Sounds like Count Jerkula has some growing up to do, so teach him a lesson. Report him.

Can't tell from the horrible second picture if the car is the same. It has Texas plates and the guy says he's from Texas, it's silver, has a snrf/bose etc. Can anyone with a better monitor see if the second (wrecked) car has RED seats? Mine looks like black but it could be my poor color. The car looks close but I still don't think I'd deal with this guy. Ther are a few NICE cars in the for sale section of this forum now try looking there. You should be able to get some feedback on the owner too if they have been around for a while.

 

No, I really think it's the same car.

The licens plate matches the one from the original pics.

in the wrecked picture, that doesn't look like a greddy exhaust. can anyone verify if that is a pettit exhaust?

That guy is a fraud. Look closely at the license plates. The license plate on the good car has a license plate cover on it and the license plate on the wrecked car has no cover on it. Except for the coating of mud on the back of the car and the broken tail light, I don't see enough damage to the rear bumper section to remove the license plate cover and leave the license plate itself in tact. If I were you, I would report this guy for fraud while you still have a chance. Did you save all your e-mail correspondence with this guy? I bet the fraud department at Ebay would love to get hold of this one.

You're right, don't lose any sleep over it. It's not worth the aggrivation. You'll find a better one...

looks like that wrecked car is the same as the ebay car, but its hard to tell. THe interior on the wrecked car looks black not red.

If I were you, I would be really upset. It is hard to find a mint FD, which that one looked like. I would definantly fill out a report with eBay since you bid making it a legal contract

yes, it certainly does. You can photoshop nearly anything...when did he send you the photo of the back end of the car? before or after it was wrecked? If before, how much before?

If I were you I'd just make him match the VIN with the crashed car and the car that he's selling, if he didn't give you the VIN before, see if you can't cross reference with the Texas DMV for the car registered to him. I would definately get ebay into this as well and see what they can do...if he REALLY did crash the car A DAY after telling you weren't bidding high enough, then he'll have no problem proving his innocence by showing ebay that the crashed car has the same VIN as the car registered to him...

It's definately worth your time not only for a chance to possibly get the car you bidded on, but also to keep the next guy from getting scammed by this guy!

P.S. He was selling that car and yet he planned on buying another one? why would anyone do that unless they're buying/selling these cars on ebay to make money...

if it was in an accident the plate may have broken off. who knows. i certainly don't

 

if you look at both rear photos you will notice the wrecked you has no rear wiper.
