Running rough and high knock after rebuild.

I got my motor all finished and running, She misses alittle when its running. It will hickup abit when im driving it.

It has knock readings around 100+.

The engine starts right up without any problems, just takes about 1/2 a second longer than a broken in motor.

The motor has prob 35 min of run time on it so far.

I'm alittle worried to be driving it if it knocks that high.

As far as I can see everything is plugged in correctly and what not.

She holds a nice temp of around 85.

I searched and nothing much came up to help me.

Thanks!

knock is a vibration reading...

who built the motor?

who tuned the map its driving on?

vacuum at idle?

I built the motor.

No port or nothing, completely stock engine

Vacuum at idle is 14mmhg

When its crusing it runs perfectly smooth, its just when its at partial throttle.

And the idle is alittle lopy

14in of vaccum is a bit low for a stock port engine.

Wouldnt a knock translate into a broken or chip apex seal?

new side seals?

does your front pulley wobble?

idle rpm?

base map?

14in-hg is quite low for a stock ported motor...with a fresh build, should be around 18in-hg.

How many motors have you built? Is this motor a combination of hard parts from multiple other engines? If so, did you check for e-shaft endplay?

I reused the side seals. Everything else is new besides the housings and irons which were perfect.

The front pully doesnt wobble at all.

Idles at 800 rpm. Im sure the vac will come up more as the motor breaks in, like it did with my white FD.

I'm using the same map that came out of the car when it was running well.

I acutaly think that I have a vacuum leak somewhere. Since i've put afew more miles on it the idle has smoothed out alittle. But will bounce for abit. Then settle out. I'm going to look all over and see if I can find anything that might be leaking. If I dont find a leak Ill take it to work tomorrow and put it on the vacuum leak finder machine.

I think I found the problem.

I pulled my front rotors' leading plug wire off, It didnt arc at all and the car runs EXACTLY the same as when its on.

Turns out I had the injector clip for the 550's on the 850's, I switched them around and the car runs PERFECT.

Feels good to be driving it again.

Yeah Its upto 16in-hg now!

I think its going to come up abit more after some more miles.

Its got a vacuum leak somewhere, but I havent even started to look for it. Once that vac leak is found It should be upto 18in-hg Im guessing.
