Running rich....

My car is running a little rich, actually pretty rich I believe. When started in the morning the car smells really rich. And also upon tip-in of the throttle there is a "poof" of rich black smoke. Could this be realted to my power problem on the primary turbo? Basically, the primary does not pull as hard as it should on the primary. But after transition the car pulls like gangbusters. Could this be a injector problem, sticking open or dripping?

if your primary is going to **** its possible that it would make you run rich to 4500~rpm's. not at low speed and idle tho. our cars tend to run pretty rich. its a good thing.

Mods and setup would really help when you are asking questions like this.

How rich is rich though? We all know that our cars run pretty damn rich to begin with, and with a turbo back exhaust it will make your eyes water from 10ft away! What are your mods? More details.

The motor being ported should make it run extra rich. Since you don't have any other stand alone or piggy back ECU, you have no way of controlling the amount of fuel being injected into the engine.

I have a ported engine and it runs super rich on the stock ECU. I'm using an Apexi S-AFC to reduce the fuel at idle.

So could I be running too rich on the primary turbo, therefore causing my poor performance until transition?

The thing is is that I have no problems with my idle or normal daily driving, except for some bucking that I believe to bo a grounding issue.
