Rubbing Through Wiring Harness in Passenger Wheel Well
Hey all,
I just caught that my FD is beginning to run through the harness running through the passenger wheel well. I seem to have caught it early, as it just started to get through the corrugation. Does anyone have a solution for this? I’m going to take the fender liner out, but it doesn’t seem to look like it can be moved any higher up.
Thanks!

After fixing any damage to the wiring harness, the correct solution here is to figure out why, when & how the tire is rubbing in the first place, and then correct the issue(s) at hand. Most likely your suspension is sitting too low and/or your wheel/tires are too large.

There are a few ways to approach this. Some (IMO) are better than others
- Identify why the wheel rubbed through and mitigate it as Pete spoke of. It is usually related to tire size and wheel offset. (likely the best solution that requires the least amount of work)
- Pull your liners, fenders and raise the harness. It would most likely still rub through if the wheel and tire combination remain the same.
- Remove liners, fenders and raise the harness, but do not replace the liners (remove them completely). Engine bay will be filthy but you will not rub with whatever ride height/ wheel/ tire combination you are running. I would try to avoid completely removing the liners for clearance if possible.

the strut top/bump stop assembly is bad, you can see its missing in the picture.

This is one of the most common and well documented issues with the fd. Unless you have some extremely large wheels or grossly blown shocks, the car was lowered prior to you owning it which is when that would have happened.
After you get the fender liner down you will simply place the harness on the upper sider of the frame rail. There are slots on the rail to secure the harness with zipties..... GOOD zip ties. This process repositions the harness above the frame and out of reach of the wheel regardless of how low you go or what size wheels you have.
The issue is really only on the left side. The harness on the right side is positioned safely already.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I’m going to remove the liners and see about relocating the harness in a safe position.
To the one who mentioned the top hat assembly is bad, the car is getting all new suspension very shortly

You don't want to get moisture into that front harness. It is huge and wraps around the entire engine bay and through the fire wall on either side. Water migration in the harness will cause all kinds of future grief.
Don't F**k with the front harness.
