Ok, I have had these 2 problems for a while now. I took my car in (local rotary shop) and my mechanic worked on, said he fixed the idle and it dosnt smoke anymore. So the next day it is idling fine and not smoking. Then the day after that idle decides to jump to 1300-1400 and white smoke is coming from my exhaust for about 30 secs, and now it smells like fuel! So i take it back in, he said i had a leak in my fuel pulsation damper whihc costs $150 to replace (is that the right cost for a new fuel pulsation damper?) and that the idle is ok now. Next day its ok, no fuel smell, no smoke and good idle (800 rpms) Next day after that, the same ****!! He keeps telling me the car just naturally runs rich and that he cant really fix the idle... i asked him if it was the plugs and he said they are fine. This is just sort of off topic but he said not to go with the PFC because all the insructions for it are in Japanese and that it is a nightmare to tune..? Anyways, what could my problem be?? and should i start looking for a new mechanic? Thanks.

$150 to replace the pulsation dampener is hell of a deal! The damn thing is only $120, but the labor is supposed to be a lot more expensive.

 

Look for a new mech...........BE nice to your rotory....

smoke is white right? Whats your oil at? how many km you got?

 

running rich is normal...smoke is normal, so is rought idle at start up. I asked Jeff, he says the cars run rich and at start up the vibrating is normal

 

White smoke is coolant..bad h2o seals..(rebuild time). blue is oil...

 

The car is under warranty so im not really worried about a rebuild. What can i ask him to check to know for sure if i need a rebuild or not?

 

Just check the turbos dog.. I had the white smoke just like that. Number 2 turbo was leaking, went to a to4r just fine now.......

BUMMER!!! like I said it only takes a few minutes.... Also to the advisors when does running rich give you white smoke? uuuhhhhh NEVER!!
