IMO, if you are just doing a stock rebuild (i.e. 2mm seals, stock ports, etc, no fancy stuff), skip the new housings.

IMO, I'd go used. The motor is more likely going to expire before things just "wear out". When that happens, you'll be much happier knowing you didn't trash some new housings.

However, its up to you. I have a completely different perspectives on these engines after all these years. And what I think today may not match with what you want to do with your car. There is no right or wrong answer, so pick one and go with it. In the least, go with whatever your engine builder is recommending. Kevin knows his stuff, he won't steer you wrong.

 

just have kevin use some good used housings. the difference in compression will be like 10-15psi at most, which doesnt even really matter.

I'd almost say new housings? I'm superstitous though. When I built my "big" block, I used new ones only because I KNEW that if something started going wrong, first thing I would say is "F'ing old housings!" So I just went with new everything...still runs great. 415hp 14 psi. Beatings every weekend...

 

Totally depends on what your goals are and what the conditions of the used ones are.

It really depends on what you want from your engine. If you want it to last a long time, get new housings. If you are looking for big power (less likely to last a long time), get the used ones. I chose to get new housings. Got them from Mazda Motorsports for $1124 (shipped) .

 

Yeah 750 for two new housings...yeah I would take that...if you can afford it ... go for it.

 

Let me clear some things up. I am the one selling the rebuild but it is rebuilt by Kevin at rotaryresurrection.com. I obviously dont get new housings for $700.00 a set because I would be a wealthy man if I did. So dont go bugging Kevin about new housings for $700.00, it wont happen. However, I am able to offer that deal due to the fact if I build a core with new housings I can reuse(if possible) the used housings that were in teh motor. The engine he is speaking of was a reman rebuild by KDR that had just over 4k miles on it. So those are the housings that are going in it, they are not brand new because the price would be a little higher if they were. Just wanted to clear those things up before Kevin gets 50 pms asking about new housings.

Edit: this engine comes with a street port(intake and exhaust of course) and 3mm mazda seals Just making that known to anyone who might be interested. Best price around hands down, you cant even send off your core and have it rebuilt somewhere with all these parts for that price.
