I thought about this when I was installing my Koyo this past winter and I came to some conclusions about it.

The Koyo can be used for the v-mount but not in the upright, top position. The only way to achieve the proper mounting of the Koyo without cutting the inlet and outlet tubes is to flip it upside down. By flipping the Koyo upside down the angles of the water inlet and outlet will be pointing in the proper direction, although in the wrong position, to mount radiator hoses to. This would allow you to keep your stock fans attached to the rear of the radiator for proper operation. All you would need to do is to plug the AST hose line and fabricate mounting brackets to hold the radiator in the proper position.

Now tell me how I am wrong.

I'm guessing you are wrong. Rotary Extreme uses a Koyo core with custom designed endtanks (very different than original) in their V-mount setup. I don't think they would have done that for no reason.

Basically, if you have skills, tools, and a lot of time, of course you can undercut RE's price for the same thing. Will it work or fit as well? Doubtful. RE is a business after all and they do have to actually make money on the products they sell and to recoup development costs.

Personally, I think the setup is a huge waste of money if you are going to be using water injection. Just stick a medium-sized SMIC in there. With the water injection, heat soak isn't an issue nor is optimal air cooling. You can keep your battery and don't have to play around with the radiator. KISS -- Keep it simple stupid.

Good point, although I don't know if undercutting RE is the right way to put it. Maybe being a poor bastard and not being able to afford the RE is a better way to put it. My next mod needs to be an intercooler. I want to go with the RE V-mount but don't have the capital to lay out to get it right now. Getting a NPR medium and Koyo and fabing them into a v-mount might be cheaper. Another issue is if you don't have all the tools to get the job done you probably will spend more in the end running to Sears to buy a tool to help fab a bracket or something. I don't know, maybe I just need to hold up Gas station or something.

If you are thinking about this custom V-mount....

The Toyota Altezza/Lexas IS300 raditor will work well as a V-mount raditor, so I have been told.

Why do you think there's something wrong with the typical SMIC? You can pick up a used SMIC all the time in the classifieds for under $1000. If you already have an aftermarket intake, you can install an SMIC in 1/2 an hour using basic tools. Quite a different scenario than spending a lot of time customizing and fabricating....

Anyway, you don't NEED an intercooler unless you are consistently running over 10 psi of boost. Lots of people have run higher boost than that with the stock IC but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.

I got a Greddy 3 row FMIC for 450.00

Sorry, had to brag!

You're right... ICs are EXPENSIVE these days! If you look around you can sometimes find a deal, like I did (Thanks Mike!!)

I've seen PFS SMICS go for a couple hundred bucks... Just gotta find em!

Not wrong, just late, I did what you are talking about years ago well before the V-mount rage, it used to be nice having to explain it to people, now everyone knows. It is not something you should do though unless you have time and resources and you really don't save that much if you start pricing it out, and you will need to modify the bottom outlet a little unless you don't mind it pointing at the ground which winds up putting the hose way too close the ground.

Hey, thinking about getting the NPR medium this month and mounting it like Jason93RX7R1 did. Only problem is that I don't have a intake. Any suggestions on an intake setup for the NPR medium mounted as a HMIC?
