Question Rotary blow up questions????

Speed and good looks don't come easily in the world of Rx7s.

I read and learned how a Rotary works last night and I was like DAMN! this **** is cool!

So with my reading comes questions. And since you guys know alot about this car I'm gonna turn to you again.

FYI: I'm into 10 or 11 second pass' mixed with reliability. I know that's a nooby thing to say but I come from the world of Supras where this isn't a hard task. So bear with me...

I was reading that the main causes of a rotary poping are a mixture of:
The Apex seals going out.
The flapper on the turbo cracking and allowing exhaust gas to leak back into the housing. Which could be linked with the clogged exhaust system that every Rx7 encounters.
The exhaust gas somehow passing the exhaust port and being re-mixed with the new air/fuel mixture coming in through the intake manifold.
And this rubber, oval, 0-ring that separtes the combustion chamber from the coolant jacket.

And there's bound to be others but... from my reading it seems that if you convert from the stock sequential twin turbos to a single turbo you can alleviate pressure on the turbo and free up more air to move through the engine. Adding a good DP, and exhaust system helps as well. If I port the intake and exhaust manifold, will that help the air enter and exit the combustion chamber more smoothly and eliminate the chance that the exhaust gas makes it back into the cycle again?

What can you do to make shure that the apex seals don't go out on you as well? These are the little pieces of metal at the 3 points of the rotor right? I hope I remembered. I've been doing alot of reading lately. Not something I do often.

Also. I heard that the engine has a hard time getting oil to it. Why is that?

Apex seals usually go from improper modding and/or tuning. Rotaries don't take to detonation like piston engines. Detonation is normally the cause of a failed/damaged seal.

The A/F ratio is really important on these cars. If you purchase a tuneable ECU, either have someone that knows what they are doing tune it for you on a dyno or get some help. It doesn't take much to lean out and blow a seal.

Now, that doesn't mean the very first time you detonate it's going to cost you a rebuild. However, I wouldn't take the chance unless you just have money to burn.
