Yea definitely preference. Some like to have them right in their face obstructing thier view on the a piller and some like then less obtrusive on the dash
I love mine. I put off buying it when I was waiting on a flyrx7 pod and the guy kept dragging me around on delivery and watching the AFR/Boost gauges in the glove box got old so I pulled the trigger on the prosport. The fit is great and I have no regrets.
I like it better in the dash than the pillar. When you are 6'1 and in an rx7 a pillar pod is like a bigass one eyeball LED spectacle that is located about .2" from face.
I just received my 3 gauge pod.
Good packaging and great customer service from Prosport!
Finish is quite good. Some leftover moulding marks but nothing major. Sadly not the same texture as the dash, but hopefully you won't notice when its in the car
Edit:
This morning i went ahead and installed my gauge. But not without trouble...
First off - my center speaker cover only has 2 clips at the front and hinges at the back. Not the 4 fasteners required by Prosport. Ive searched for these retainers with no luck yet... I did know Prosport didn't supply them, but thought it would look like the stock center grille in my car.
Second - this is apparently only for a LHD car with no way of being interchangeable. Even when removing the screws it's been glued together at one place, and a guidance tab at another. Sadly i didn't think of this, so now ill probably have to modd it to get it to fit properly.
also, the pod is advertised as RHD compatible. message prosport on how to do it.
......
Hmm, weird it doesn't say this on their website anywhere. I gave it a go on my own today, maybe Prosport will chime in with another way of doing it.
What i did was the following:
1 - Drill out the 3 spots where they had put glue.
2 - Mark the "guidance tab" with some paint, then rotate the base until the notch shows the hex bolt.
3 - Drill out the new place for the "guidance tab" (see pic 1)
4 - grind down the plastic pieces holding the 3 houses together. This has to be done to make the housing flush with the dash. (see pic 2)
5 - put some glue to properly bond the outer housings to the base plate. Make sure you test fit if first, because after this, you won't be able to disassemble it again.
6 - Mount and be happy! (i will in a couple of days, after repainting gauges and complete the wiring).
I am in NO WAY telling you this is the appropriate way, but i did not find any other suitable way to convert it into RHD.
Now it will be facing the driver the way it should.
Holy thread revival !! This was started back on 2008....
It is pretty easy to remove the base (three screws) then pop the sonic welds and grind off the tiny plastic nub (stop) then reattached the top screw loosely and swivel the pod on the base to the desired angle, tighten the screw and if need add a drop of glue on the opposite side of the screw where the base meets the pod for added stability. This will work for the 2,3 & 4 pod versions.
understood, thanks! i was actually trying to figure out if you could by any way slide the individual slots to make a perfect copy of the LHD but for RHD.
i guess the only thing possible to do is just rotate the entire 3 pod gauge without modifying the single pods..
