REVIEW: HKS Carbon Ti VS Apexi GT Spec

Well I just recently had my hks carbon ti exhaust installed a few days ago and I thought i would write a little review on each of them and their significant differences.

HKS Carbon Ti: Bought this off the forums at a reasonable price, very well made and constructed. The exhaust is HEAVY, atleast 5 more lbs then the apexi exhaust. Looks are subjective but I think the titanium tip and carbon wrap canister look great, this will compliment my CF diffuser when i get one. The exhaust tone is much more subtle then the Apexi exhaust. Its quiter, not as deep and doesnt scream at WOT like the apexi exhaust does. This is on intake, dp and stock mid-pipe. I think with a resonated mid-pipe this exhaust would sound killer, absolutely no need for a silencer now though.
Pics of it on the car, note c-west rear bumper is coming off in a week or two and being replaced with the stock rear and cf diffuser.

Apexi GT Spec: I had this exhaust for at least 5,000 miles and loved it, never have had one complaint about it. The exhaust note is on the louder side but not at all raspy, it has more of a deeper tone to it. Sounds AMAZING at WOT, better then the HKS exhaust. With a midpipe you would definitely need a silencer depending on how loud you like it. I thought it looks pretty good but doesnt compare to the HKS exhaust, the HKS exhaust wins hands down.

Conclusion: This is a bit of a toss up, the hks piping is 3" and the apexi is 3.75"(note - mine was 3"). The apexi exhaust sounds better but has more of a drone then the HKS exhaust. The HKS exhaust looks better much weighs more too. I think in the end it all comes down to personal preference. I plan on adding a metallic cat or high flow cat in the near future - hopefully that will liven up the HKS exhaust.

I have the HKS carbon TI exhaust and its not that heavy. Your making it seem like it weighs 50 pounds. From my experience, the apexi GT spec is god damn defening loud!

^Ditto.

I've never heard it on an FD, but I've heard it on plenty of 240's and other various cars and it's LOUD.

Just curious if anyone made a compariosn between the Carbon Ti and the regular Hi-Power's sound. From my understanding, they are pretty much the same except for the carbon wrapped canister and Ti lip. I thought the Hi-Power on mine was not that loud, but people around always complain about it, so I put a silencer in there and have been getting less complaints.
Does the Carbon Ti sound like the Hi-Power? If not, does anyone know the differences?

i had the carbon ti on my sti when i had it, I installed an invidia dp along with the hks , i went from completely stock muffled sti sound, to goddamn orgasmic boxer rumble. I loved the carbon ti on my sti, so i plan on replacing the pfs catback that came on my rx7 when i bought it with it.

Are there any sound clips of the hks?

I have the HKS CF/Ti with the RX-7store resonated mid-pipe and I love it. It's such a unique sound.
