Restrictor plate

So im thinking about buying a midpipe and putting a restrictor plate on it to prevent boost creep. I already have a hi flow cat for actual performance. I just want one thing that you are all going to make fun of me for — flames. My questions are: how bad is the smell? Is it actually unbearable or just a slight turn off? Also, do I have to change my maps at all? I’m on an Apexi PFC

your backpressure will change, and the smart thing to do is check the tune AFR's at least.

It gets pretty damn stinky. Used to not bother me but a number of years ago something changed and I can't take the full on smell any more.

Don't know if there's anyone near by you that has an RX-7 with a mid pipe you can "smell" in person. Good thing is a mid pipe isn't too pricey, you can swap it on and sell it if you don't like it.

I premix half oz to a gal with a muffled/resonated midpipe, have dealt with it the past 2 years and just bought a high flow cat. Driving with the windows down I don't notice it much, but when I get home I smell like oil. I also back into my garage and it gets into the house at that point. Hoping the cat will pull my boost back a bit too, I have a restrictor now but when the cooler weather hits its not enough.

first of all, i wanna commend you for being an absolute rotary god. Secondly, do you personally think i would require a retune. I plan on getting an AFR gauge to keep things safe like I was recommended, of course.

If you wanna do it you should do it right. Which means you should pull the turbos and port the wastegate, and then tune for it. You can even up the boost at the same time if your other mods will support it.
I went the restrictors route before and on a cold night my car was running great but then detonated. I limped it home in fear but luckily my motor was ok. I took out the restrictor the next day.
