Repost (sort of) of a ECU chip question...

A guy posted a "what do you think about this" in another area of the forum and I wanted some more opinions about it. It is an upgrade eprom chip for your ECU. Here is the link: ECU Eprom Chip

Please let me know what you think. I am on a limited budget for a while and I have the 3k hesitation and the car runs rich and would do just about anything to get rid of those problems.

Thanks!

Well, a reprogrammed ECU is not going to fix any hesitation problems or keep you from running rich. Depending on your mods, it will make you run even richer if the ECU is tuned for more open air flow than what you currently are running.

Sorry, I should have posted the few mods I have. I have a downpipe and catback. That's it. (So far ) I still have the stock ECU in the car right now also.

Thanks!

Honestly, with just those two mods right now, you should save your money. An ECU is a good upgrade, but at your current stage, I wouldn't worry about it just yet.

If I were in your shoes, I would save that money and put it towards some suspension replacement/upgrades. The Eibach kit was one of the best changes I ever did.

As for the hesitation, check all your ground wires. Make sure they are clean (take some sandpaper to them) and they have good contact. If you haven't added an extra ground or two in the engine bay yet, now is a good time. Also, check out your spark plugs and wires.

The guy who owned the car before me did the extra ground to chassis. I am doing some maintenance this weekend such as oil, plugs, tranny fluid and then taking it for a compression check.
I have that damn 3k hesitation really bad and it is annoying as hell. I cant stand it! Everyone has said that the Apexi Power FC would fix it.

As for suspension, I have to get the rear lower control arm bushings replaced and that is going to set me back about $700. I would like to do some other suspension upgrades also.

Thanks!

Well, the PowerFC (and other re-programmable ECU's like the Haltech) may inadvertently remove the hesitation (or make it so it's not noticeable), but the stock ECU is not the problem.

If the stock ECU caused the 3k hesitation, every FD would have it, and they would have had it when they rolled off the assembly line (which we all know wasn't the case).

Having said that, I would look else where to solve your hesitation problem. I don't have a PowerFC or any of the other re-programmable ECU's and I do not have the 3k hesitation.

Do you have any other suggestions on getting rid of the hesitation?

* Check and clean all ground connections
* Add at least 1 additional ground in the engine bay. There are grounding kits that you can purchase which will give you several grounding wires. I'm thinking of getting one myself, but I've already made a few wires.
* Check spark plug wires, change if needed
* Check/change fuel filter

*Will do it this weekend.
*I have one huge aftermarket ground wire going from my battery to the chassis. I will check it again for cleanliness this weekend.
*The plug wires are pretty new. I am changing the plugs and the oil this weekend also.
*Also changin the fuel filter this weekend.

I also copied the post about 3k hesitation from Damonb and will look into that as well.

Thanks again. You always seem to answer my posts with good info. Thanks!
