Replacing Clutch
I am replacing my burnt out clutch with an HKS GD PRO Twin Plate clutch and I have never done a clutch job before(but a friend who has is going to be helping me out). I wanted to know if there is a step by step manual on the internet, I couldnt find anything but I will definently need some help. If anyone has any tips or a good link please let me know thanks,
Alex

A lot of good threads with some good detail. If you want a step-by-step, then you probably just need to get the Factory Service Manual. If you have a friend helping you it shouldn't be too bad. Pay special attention to some of the youtube sights that show the wedge collar and how it operates....
I hope you plan on replacing the clutch fork with the reinforced one that Mazda sells (forgot the part number). FD Newbie had a thread addressing this issue. I had my clutch fork break after I installed an aftermarket clutch.
Do lots of reading to see what you can replace while you have the tranny and clutch out...
good luck

I have plenty of tranny R&R / clutch stuff in my tranny rebuild writeup:
www.davidgeesaman.com.
www.fd3s.net also has a tranny removal/reinstall article.
Watch the video on throwout bearing disengagement that's linked in the FAQ thread, too. Play with the wire ring / wedge collar assembly outside of the car to be sure you install them properly and without damage.
Make sure you wipe the pressure plate and flywheel clean with solvent and keep any grease/oil away from the clutch parts. Torque the parts exactly to spec. Replace the clutch fork since you're installing a heavier pressure plate.

Replacing clutch
Thanks guys, I found a complete step by step clutch installation guide on the internet so I will be using that as a guide. I do know that the clutch I am replacing is aftermarket so I am assuming that the clutch fork has already been changed. I also wanted to know if there is any special solvent that should be used on the flywheel or is a general cleaning solvent fine? Thanks again, I will post how the job went after I am done.

Be careful not to get anything on the friction material of the clutch plate. A little brake cleaner or paint reducer on a rag to wipe the PP and flywheel surface works well.
