Replacement Coolant Guage (How hot should the FD be?)

I've done a search on this and can only find a bit of info that track goers use

I'm just wondering how hot the coolant in the 7 should be?

I've been looking at an Aftermarket Guage 52mm to replace the stocker adn I'm just wondering what the Norm and ax should roughly be.

Thanks

Dave

180 if your luck, 200 is normal, anything over 210 and you better shut her off before the engine eats its self...

The sky is falling!! The sky is falling!!

The thermostat doesn't even begin to open until 180F. You'll never see 180 unless you are overcooling the engine. In the street and around town 200-210F is perfectly normal and safe. I race constantly with the stock radiator in 100+ degree Texas heat and there's no need to begin getting worried until you hit 220 and keep climbing.

MAZDA put a 190 deg thermostat in and set 221deg as the Fan turn on point so I would think they expected the operating range to be between 190 & 221 degrees.

I have that same gauge on my nearly-stock FD. I get peaks around 215, and low point about 180 on a warm engine. I believe at 210 the fans kick on (I have a Miata thermoswitch installed) and push it down to 180 pretty quickly. If the car is parked on a hot day, the block will heat-soak the coolant up to 220-230 until I start the car and get it flowing again. AFAIK this is all normal, but aside from checking the temp while waiting for lights I don't study it.

Thanks again fellas

My list is slowly shrinking, just sillycone hoses, Miata thermostat and a bit more flushing and I can relax for a week or two
